Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Waterford By IHG

I called this hotel a few times prior to our stay, requesting earlier check in times and then later trying to combine reservations. They were always very friendly and willing to work with my requests. The hotel was quiet, very clean and not overpriced. We enjoyed our stay here.

Liked: Clean, quiet. Great breakfast.

I would recommend this hotel for anyone seeing a concert at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston. Very easy to get to - ten minute drive.

Liked: Comfy bed; clean and smell-free room; generous and helpful staff.
Disliked: No mini fridge; at breakfast the apples were dry. Sausage gravy tasted watery, no pancakes or waffles or bacon. :(

Didn't expect much

Disliked: Construction in hotel. Limited breakfast. Only two bath towels in room for four occupants. We did know that the pool would be closed. Traffic noise too loud.

Good

Convenient and comfortable

Liked: The renovated room was great. Very comfortable and stylish with all the amenities I needed.
Disliked: They are still renovating the front office and breakfast area, and the pool was closed.

Passable

Liked: The room had been redecorated nicely.
Disliked: The hotel was under construction with tarps and plastic hanging everywhere. Elevators had masking tape on floor buttons causing much confusion. The breakfast was a grab and go because the dining area was under construction and the food was set up in the lobby. All of this came as a surprise. We were not informed of the o going work when the reservation was made. A disappointing visit.

It was okay-but not what...

Liked: Our room was nice but the bed was very uncomfortable. We did not know that the hotel was being remodeled. The pool was closed. The normal breakfast was not being served due to the construction-it was just a “grab and go” breakfast. There was no lobby. It was very much not worth the price. I think we deserve a partial refund
Disliked: The property will be nice once the remodel is done. I just don’t think you should charge full price when all the amenities are not available

Disappointed because of the major...

Liked: Staff was wonderful.
Disliked: The hotel is under major construction. The breakfast was a grab and go because of this. They gave a good selection considering the circumstances. The pool and exercise room were closed because of the work being done. We were not aware of the construction until we arrived because we booked 3rd party. The desk clerk said that this information is on their website. Our room was nice, but the dust from construction was in the air in the hallways. The staff did a great job trying to keep everyone happy under this huge undertaking. I'm thinking that maybe they should have closed until the major construction was done.

Disliked: There were renovations being done on the roof and lower level. Gave us a room top floor with extremely loud banging and walking around - i called and asked for a room on the lower level and was told that theres nothing they can do about the renovations and it seemed to bother her to look for another room. She sighed and said she had 1 left that i had to come back down and sign again. Once into the new room, the HEAT was on 75! It was almost 80° outside! Then, I laid on the bed and when i stood up my shirt was covered in a brown dust of some sort. We asked for a new comforter and did receive one. We took showers and the shower floor was filthy! Once into bed for the night the loud banging ensued ob the lower level! It was a terrible nights sleep or lack thereof. While I understood that the renovations were occurring-there was no notice that it was happening-we came to relax and could not do so.
