Gruene Outpost River Lodge, New Braunfels

Be prepared for a rustic...

Liked: The property is right on the Guadalupe River. We were there for a high school reunion, and we had a group of 40-50 people at any one time The Outpost has an outdoor venue with a stage that was more than adequate for our needs. There was also sufficient indoor space we could have used in case of inclement weather.The rooms were clean, linens were sufficient, and the young staff was nice.
Disliked: The bed mattresses and box springs were worn and very creaky. There was sufficient closet space, but no hangars. There was no dedicated wifi for the rooms, but we were able to get a weak signal from the nearby clubhouse wifi. There were only four electrical outlets available for guest use without unplugging lights or appliances.

Things in the room need...

Liked: The location is great. I just feel more effort in the upkeep of the property is needed. Otherwise it is very charming. It’s easy to get to and it’s right on the river. The property has so much potential if they put some money into fixing things.
Disliked: The floors were dirty upon arrival, we noticed it when our feet turned black from walking on the floor barefoot. Most of the plug outlets had issues, plugs will fall out. Our AC did not work well at all. Maintenance came in and replaced the dirty filters but it still was not cooling much. Luckily they supplied us with a couple of fans because it’s hard to sleep when it’s hot in the room. The refrigerator had a broken shelf. The shower is very hard to turn on, actually thought it was broken at first.

Lovely pool and river

Liked: The pool is fabulous beautiful temperature surrounded by trees and nature. Although the hotel no longer do tubing the place next door does and the hotel is in the river
Disliked: No issues

Liked: the trees were pretty
Disliked: It was old and had little parking. the property was not up kept and when turning on one light the light in the bedroom would flicker and turn off power elsewhere. it was far not worth $250 a night. the river access was bad and semi-dangerous to enter water and the river was nasty at this point AND staff was never available no cleaned. they simple parked a cart at the outside entrance of building and when asked to change towels it was a bother to them though with 3 people we used the minimal towels given each time we showered. I was told I’d get a partial refund when checking out though have not heard back….. spend your money at a place updated and cleaned within the last 30 years.

Liked: location is great and had a lot of parking.
Disliked: Very loud due to thin walls and floors. You hear walking and talking all night. The floors were sticky, food left in refrigerator, spiders, candy wrappers and old candy stick from a sucker were under the edge of the beds.
