Not a family friendly experience...

Liked: The exterior is lovely. The pool and grounds really picturesque.
Disliked: Did not have the ambiance or guest services of a 5* hotel. Quite shockingly poor reception at check in. We were told all the family rooms were sold out, however we only saw one other child on the property. We did not realized the main hotel did not have air con, and thankfully we were moved to adjoining rooms in another part of the property. No special activities or welcome for the children as advertised on the website (activities, picnics, small bathrobes). Limited hours for children at the pool and we were told the children could not keep jumping into the water, despite them trying to carefully not splash others. Not a family friendly or fun/relaxed environment for parents. Our older children were playing during children’s pool hours. Seems like the hotel is currently under poor management. Very young, very limited staff expected to carry out a luxury experience for guests seems unfair. Food and drinks were underwhelming, especially for the price, and service was very slow. While some of the staff was engaging, most walked past us looking very stressed. We made reservations for dinner under the impression things were very full, only to arrive and see many empty tables. We were looking forward to a special stay and this location didn’t meet the mark.

Perfect spa weekend hideaway!

Liked: Perfect for a romantic weekend getaway near London and easy to get to via train and a 5 min taxi drive, Uber is also availableA cosy hideaway, very quiet and peaceful, perfect for couples. The grounds are beautiful and invite for walks. The whole atmosphere in the hotel is very relaxing and staff super friendly. We received a room upgrade on arrival which made our stay perfect - the beds are very comfy and the room was very clean. Very delicious breakfast and dinner options! The pool area was also super calm, relaxing vibes with nice pool service!
Disliked: The only thing which was disappointing was that we wanted to sit outside for our dinner (like the day before at the Grill) because it was lovely weather. Unfortunately, they couldn’t accommodate it logistically which we didn’t expect from a 5* hotel in summer.
