Why Concert-goers love it

This hotel is a dream base for music lovers. Located in the Gaslamp Quarter, you’re steps from iconic venues and less than a 15-minute walk to Petco Park. The nearby 5th Avenue Light Rail Station makes late-night transport a breeze, and the hotel’s thick walls and vintage build help buffer street noise—perfect for post-show recovery. Though check-in is later in the day, the friendly staff are happy to hold luggage if you arrive early.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish stay near nightlife
  • Solo travelers chasing bucket-list gigs
  • Couples wanting a romantic, music-filled weekend
  • Fans seeking a quieter, elegant place to recharge
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want charm without the splurge

Food and Drink Options

On-site dining includes the unique Melting Pot Restaurant—great for leisurely fondue dinners after a show. The hotel also features the Syrah Wine Parlor, perfect for a late-night glass of wine before heading up to your room. While there’s no 24/7 room service, in-room amenities like a microwave and fridge are ideal for late-night bites. Breakfast is available, though it’s worth noting it's on the lighter side—perfect for a post-concert morning recharge.

Nightlife Options

You’re in the middle of it all. The Gaslamp Quarter is packed with bars, lounges, and live music venues within walking distance. Whether you're looking for a rooftop cocktail, a craft beer spot, or a laid-back wine bar like Syrah downstairs, your options are endless. The hotel itself doesn’t host live music, but the neighborhood more than makes up for it.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s charming architecture, central location, and friendly staff. Many reviewers highlight how convenient it is for attending events downtown, and love the old-world vibe that sets it apart from chain hotels. Clean, quiet rooms and comfy beds are frequently mentioned, even with the nightlife just outside.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the elevator is a bit slow—no surprise for a century-old building. Others mention that while the rooms are stylish, they’re not ultra-modern. Breakfast is simple, so if you're looking for a big morning feast, you might want to explore nearby cafes.

The Bottom Line

Gaslamp Plaza Suites offers a blend of vintage elegance and unbeatable location—making it a top pick for concert-goers who want charm, comfort, and music just steps away.

Comfortable, stylish stay with great...

Liked: Gaslamp Plaza Suites is right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter, so you're literally steps away from all the bars, restaurants, and nightlife. Being in the middle of the city does come with a bit of the usual city stuff—some noise, a little grunge—but the location is super convenient if you're looking to explore downtown. The hotel felt really safe, which I appreciated. There’s valet parking right out front, and the lobby doors lock at night—you use your room key to get in and to access the elevator, which was a nice security touch. The front desk staff was great—super friendly and helpful. I mentioned my room felt a little small, and they didn’t hesitate to upgrade me to a Junior Suite. It was awesome! Really spacious, with a comfy queen bed, a full living room, and even a kitchenette. The living room had a sofa that pulled out into a bed, which would be perfect for kids or extra guests. The kitchenette had a microwave, fridge, sink, and everything you’d need—plates, glasses, utensils, wine opener, sponge, dish soap, even a drying mat. Great setup if you're traveling with family or just want to save your leftovers. The bathroom had a big oval tub and those wall dispensers with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, plus hand soap and lotion by the sink. There was also a small dining table, chairs, and a desk, which made the room feel super livable. They also held our bags after checkout so we could wander around a bit longer without dragging our stuff around. Really appreciated that.Overall, the hotel was clean, had a unique vintage feel that made it stand out, and still offered all the modern essentials like a hair dryer and ironing board. You could stay somewhere more basic, but this place actually feels like a vacation. Highly recommend if you want something comfortable, memorable, and close to everything.TIP: Use the Hop On Hop Off Trolley to explore many of the local attractions.
Disliked: There’s no on-site restaurant, and valet parking is on the pricier side—pretty typical for downtown hotels. It would’ve been nice if they offered a continental breakfast, though.

Was thoroughly charmed, would stay...

Liked: Location close to our theater venue. Hotel itself had a lot of vintage charm.
Disliked: I think all hotel rooms should come with a standard white-noise machine, or at least a fan, but that's just me.

Very nice location and classy...

Liked: A really interesting old-timey building with great rooms and services. The view from the roof deck was very nice and the staff was very attentive.
Disliked: The bath could use an update, but it was fine.

OK, but wouldn't stay there...

Liked: Room was clean. Requested a King size bed, but ended up with a Full size bed which was uncomfortably small for my wife and I. Didn't sleep well. Even though it was classified as a Suite, the room was small. You couldn't even open the bathroom door all the way because the Full size bed prevented the bathroom door from opening.....
Disliked: Being charged $45 for parking. Wasn't called out during the reservation process, and wasn't called out at all during the booking process. Not cool.

Bad

Liked: You are greeted by bad smells from the moment you enter the hotel until you reach the room. It is one of the worst hotels I have rented.
