The Spotlight on Freehand New York

Creative Vibes Meet Concert Convenience at Freehand New York

Modern and artsy, Freehand New York is a stylish hotel in the historic Flatiron District, set in the former George Washington Hotel. With interiors by Roman and Williams and an artistic partnership with Bard College, the hotel blends NYC's creative edge with upscale comfort. Guests can expect thoughtful details like HD smart TVs, plush bathrobes, and Argan-infused amenities in every room.
Located just steps from the 6 train and within walking distance of Union Square, Midtown, and Madison Square Park, it's a perfect launchpad for a music-filled night out in Manhattan.

Why Concert-goers love it

Freehand New York is just a short walk or subway ride away from some of the city's top music venues, including Madison Square Garden and Irving Plaza. With a midnight-friendly vibe and a lobby that stays buzzing long after encore, it offers the perfect post-show atmosphere. The late check-out at 12:00 pm means you can sleep in after a late night, and the central location makes catching a cab or hopping on the subway a breeze.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun, social stay with shared spaces and rooftop bars
  • Solo travelers catching a must-see artist and wanting access to NYC’s culture scene
  • Couples making a long weekend of great shows and city exploring
  • Fans needing a chill space to recharge after loud nights
  • Budget-conscious music lovers wanting boutique style without splurging

Food and Drink Options

Freehand New York is a foodie-friendly spot with five restaurants and bars. The lobby bar and the rooftop Broken Shaker serve up creative cocktails and bites, while The Smile offers convenient grab-and-go options for pre-show snacks. While there's no 24/7 room service, the on-site dining covers most late-night cravings, and breakfast options are available if you’re up before noon.

Nightlife Options

If you're not ready to call it a night after the concert, the on-site Broken Shaker rooftop bar delivers a lively atmosphere with skyline views and a curated cocktail menu. Prefer something low-key? The lobby bar is perfect for a nightcap. Plus, you’re minutes away from NYC’s famed nightlife scenes in Flatiron, NoMad, and the East Village.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s stylish decor, creative atmosphere, and buzzing rooftop bar. Many love the location for its easy access to concert venues and subway lines. Rooms are described as clean, comfortable, and filled with thoughtful touches like free bottled water and plush amenities. The social vibe, from the artsy lobby to the rooftop, is often highlighted as a plus.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviewers mention smaller-than-expected rooms, which is typical in NYC, and note that the hotel can get lively at night—great if you're staying up, less so if you're trying to sleep early. Also, while there's no on-site gym or spa, the city is your playground.

The Bottom Line

Freehand New York is a stylish, centrally located hotel with a creative vibe and nightlife energy—perfect for concert-goers looking to stay in the rhythm of the city.

Clean, comfortable and central. Ideal...

Liked: Clean and very comfortable room in the centre of Manhattan, complete with airconditioning and daily housekeeping. The room had an ideal size for me as a solo traveller, but will probably feel a bit small for two people - although I think that according to New York standards it's more than worthy. Perfect location to start off every day to go and explore a new New York neigbourhood. The friendly staff at the register made checking in and out a matter of minutes.
Disliked: The music in the lift was a tad too loud. As my room was directly across from it, I could hear the music late at night when the doors opened. But that's a minor detail; earplugs are always a good idea in a city like New York, no matter where you're staying, and they helped me with this issue as well.

Hotel was a good value...

Liked: Staff was friendly. Location was convenient. Happy that you had a fitness room.
Disliked: Many machines in the fitness room were broken (both Peleton bikes, water cooler). Fitness room ran out of water bottles. Bed didn't have box springs. Bathroom, especially the sink, was very small.

High expectations, a little disappointed

Liked: The room itself was nicely decorated, cozy, the bed in particular was comfortable. The room was on the darker side. The restaurant belonging the hotel was particularly good and the staff were really nice. The bar is also good. The hotel location is close to a lot of transportation, restaurants, etc. The breakfast is also good.
Disliked: The internet was quite unstable during my stay which was an issue. Especially when doing video calls. Considering this is a working hotel.... The room I was given was next to the facilities closet which created quite some noise at some hours. Also, I was late checking out by 3 minutes and the staff did not hesitate to come knock on my door which did not leave a good a impression. First time this happened in my life and have stayed in other NYC hotels.

Nice hotel. Even better location...

Liked: Good hotel. Very good location. For New York City the rooms are massive to be honest. Bar on the rooftop and 2th floor are nice and friendly staff. Seems renovated not to long ago. Would come again.
