In the Lake District village of Elterwater the independent Elterwater Hostel offers dormitories and private rooms with a communal lounge and dining area. Nestled in Langdale Valley this hostel also features free WiFi home-cooked food cycle storage and is also just 2 minutes' walk from the local pub. Male female and mixed dormitories have bunk beds and use of shared bathrooms and private showers. Guests can relax in the lounge and make use a well-equipped kitchen drying room and storage facilities. Breakfast evening meals and packed lunches can all be provided at an additional charge. These can be arranged on arrival. Parking is available in the National Trust Car Park 328 feet from the hostel and is free for National Trust Members The local area provides opportunities for hiking cycling and climbing and the town of Ambleside is around 4 miles away. Coniston and Bowness-on-Windermere are within 20 minutes' drive and Keswick is 30 minutes away. The iconic walking trails of Bowfell and Langdale Pikes are less than 5 miles away and the village of Grasmere popular with poet William Wordsworth is 2.9 miles away.

Beautiful solo walking weekend

Liked: Excellent facilities, nice and clean, beds comfortable. Perfect location.
Disliked: There were no lockers or anywhere to store bags/clothes so we had to put them under the beds. It said free parking but you had to pay at a nearby car park. Thankfully someone gave me a ticket they no longer needed so I didn't have to pay.

Superb

Liked: Great location, clean facilities, super friendly staff. Delicious dinner and breakfast. Village pub nearby.Extraordinary surroundings of natural beauty.
Disliked: Parking on site is very limited, we needed to use the national trust parking, and pay. Beds are slightly small for taller travellers. Hostel is not staffed until 5 pm

Exceptional

Liked: The staff were really lovely and so hard working, they made everything so easy and had lots of great advice. The check in proces was easy, the hostel is in a spectacular location great for big walks. I am looking forward to visiting again and making the most of the home cooked dinner and board games and bar!
Disliked: Nothing, it was great.
