Overall a nice stay…

Liked: The eagle and child is a very nice pub in a good location. The room was very nice and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was nice and served in the orangery which has beautiful scenic views. We choose to stay at the eagle & child as we were going on the nearby steam train- we had a few minor customer service issues where I feel they could improve - on arrival we were told we hadn’t paid which we had, it was quickly resolved but it did feel like a bit accusatory so wasn’t the best welcome, we were then shown to our room and asked if we knew about breakfast and told it’s from 8:30. It wasn’t made clear that it was 8:30-9:30 so looked this up myself. I wonder if the girl wasn’t sure herself but she just seemed very uninterested. The steam train finished just after 10. We arrived back at 10:34 to be told the bar was shut - this was very disappointing for a Saturday night. It was suggested that we walk to the off licence!! I questioned if this was normal as online it says they shut at midnight and if we should have had drinks in the fridge as both on here and the website it states rooms have a mini bar but was told they don’t anymore. It was a shame not to be able to get a drink either at the bar on even in our room as hotel guests. They could easily have been charged to our room if they had cashed up. They are minor issues but just been a slight improvement in customer service / interactions would have made our stay better.
