We were able to walk to the House of Blues from the hotel. And it was only a four dollar cab ride back to the hotel.

Basic needs met but wi-fi...

Liked: The place is located at the edge of downtown and balboa park. I was able to walk to the convention center in about 20 minutes, gas lamp 15 minutes, balboa like 15-20, depending on where you are going. There are some fast food places close by and a few other restaurants in various directions. I also used circuit for a ride, it is a free service within downtown. The place is old. It is similar to a drive up motel. But the beds are comfortable. Bathroom old but well maintained. Had a Roku TV. It is at the end of a road so depending on where you stay you hear cars driving by. It didn't bother us. Free parking which was great.
Disliked: Experience was overall positive. There was left over food in the fridge but I gave it to the cleaning lady and that was that. The wi-fi was bad. They gave me a username and password but that didn't work. The general wi-fi was useless.

Liked: The location of the hotel was excellent. It is close to shopping, restaurants and stores.
Disliked: When I booked online, the total amount came to 114.00. READ THE ENTIRE agreement carefully! On the third page, buried in the bottom of the sixth paragraph is the statement that a $200 hold will be placed on the debit/credit card upon check in. So the numbers look like a good deal when you're checking in with the app. Just be expected to have approximately $320 on your card to get the room key. If you don't have the funds, you don't get the key. Since there are no refunds, you very easily will be out $114.00 minimum. Subsequently, when you check out, you are informed that the $200 deposit should be refunded in five days.Due to my 9:30pm check in, I was lectured by night staff regarding loud noises, visitors, and anything suspicious, management,"Would not think twice about throwing me out." Uh, I was just there by myself to sleep. I see that staff has already calibrated me as someone who had other plans. Sorry to disappoint. This was surprising because I have a long history of renting from this property (8 years) and I've never had a problem and always check out on time. I'm still waiting for my deposit to be credited back. Getting somewhat nervous because as of this morning, the charge went from "pending," to, "posted."
