Down Hall Country House Hotel

Beautiful location, not so great...

Liked: Great property to look at but very worn out.
Disliked: Very worn out. Wall paper peeling off the walls. The temperature of the room mean to got zero sleep. The shower was filthy upon arrival and simple things that should have been dealt with weren’t - half used damp toilet rolls being left for instance

Disliked: I asked for a walk in shower/reduced access room and was given a room only accessible via stairs on top floor

It was a plesent stay...

Liked: Nice setting.
Disliked: Our bedroom carpet was quite badly stained and when the member of staff called to check we were happy with our room I told him about the staines but he did not offer to do anything to try to fix.

The stay was pretty awful...

Disliked: We couldn’t check in at 3pm, the room wasn’t ready until 5pm which ruined our plans, the staff couldn’t even look at us when speaking to us, the food wasn’t very nice and the service was poor, the place wasn’t clean and tidy, glasses food plates left for hours.

Disappointed

Liked: The grounds are lovely
Disliked: The breakfast was very poor. Excuses were made as it was towards the end of breakfast but for this rate of hotel I would expect fresh fruit to be laid out rather than empty trays. Having to pay extra for the spa as a staying guest seemed a little cheeky and £17 for a glass of champagne in the spa seemed a little pricey too. Staff were friendly but very young and perhaps just lack the hospitality experience needed in a hotel of this ranking.

Liked: The staff went above and beyond for our stay, we stayed at the hotel after our daughter’s 1st birthday in the grounds.
Disliked: We wished the spa was open earlier on the Sunday morning.
