The Spotlight on Days Inn by Wyndham San Diego/Downtown/Convention Center

Affordable Comfort in San Diego’s Music-Friendly Downtown

Modern and budget-friendly, Days Inn by Wyndham San Diego/Downtown/Convention Center puts you right in the heart of the city. Just minutes from top concert venues, Balboa Park, and the San Diego Zoo, this hotel offers a clean, comfortable base with all the essentials for a music-filled getaway. Expect practical perks like free WiFi, in-room microwaves and fridges, and a central downtown location close to public transportation.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're headed to a show, the location is hard to beat. You’re a short walk or quick trolley ride from San Diego’s biggest venues. The nearby City College Trolley Station (just under a mile away) makes it easy to get around even after late-night sets. While not a luxury stay, this hotel is quiet enough for post-concert recovery, and the 3:00 PM check-in gives you time to settle in before the show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for value and walkability
  • Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist downtown
  • Couples making a weekend of it with a show and sightseeing
  • Fans who want a peaceful spot to recharge after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want location without the price tag

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no on-site restaurant, guests enjoy a light breakfast service—perfect if you’re sleeping in after a late night. The surrounding area has plenty of walkable dining spots, including casual eateries and 24-hour options. In-room microwaves and fridges make late-night leftovers a breeze.

Nightlife Options

You’re in a great spot for nightlife. From craft cocktail lounges to dive bars, downtown San Diego has a scene for every vibe. While the hotel itself is low-key, you’ll be steps away from clubs and rooftop bars where the night doesn’t stop when the concert ends.

What People Say

Guests love the location and price point, often noting how easy it is to walk or catch a trolley to events. The clean rooms and friendly staff also get frequent shoutouts. Many reviews highlight the convenience of having a microwave and fridge in-room, especially for longer stays or late-night snacks.

Areas for Improvement

Some rooms and hallways could use a refresh, and the parking spots are limited and tight. While the hotel is generally quiet, some guests have mentioned occasional downtown noise—bring earplugs just in case.

The Bottom Line

An affordable, no-frills stay in the heart of San Diego that gives concert-goers easy access to the city’s best venues without breaking the bank.

Nightmare

Liked: The location
Disliked: The hotel was under construction, everyting was dirty, one guy of the staff was rude, and told us he wont give our $100 dolars deposit just because we were knocking the door of the loby because it was closed because the man was on his dinner break and didn’t want to oppen the door. I need my deposit back

Good

Liked: Staff were friendly and helpful.
Disliked: The hotel is undergoing construction/renovations so it can be a bit noisy at times. The door lock seems to keep resetting, too, so I had to check with the staff almost on a daily basis (not a big deal because the staff were friendly and were always ready to assist).

Will never stay here again

Liked: Location only
Disliked: Very noisy-entire hotel under renovation. Construction next to our room woke us up at 7:30am. Breakfast not included, as stated on website. Floor filthy. Sink not draining. Reservations booked several months ago; plenty of time for property to contact us & give us opportunity to cancel due to construction.

I'm extremely embarrassed that I...

Liked: tv worked
Disliked: the room wasn't clean, kept our shoes on, didn't want to unpack anything, bedding was questionable as there was only a thin blanket on top which I highly doubt gets washed every time, no tissue, no microwave, windows outdated... especially the locking mechanisms, no place to put your toiletries, just a couple of hangers for 4 adults, only the plastic cups that were sealed in plastic were clean & safe to use. no breakfast even though it's advertised. paid far too much for an outdated, dysfunctional, dirty room on premises that were under construction. take your chances with the elevator... you're standing on some boards thrown together to make a floor. this was the start of our all girls trip and I have never been so embarrassed! the Days Inn is under construction, the lobby is not welcoming, when asked about the breakfast the response was we don't do it anymore, the elevator was a joke and then came the room... we immediately checked for bed bugs and luckily didn't find any. LOOK ELSEWHERE!!

Avoid this hotel – false...

Liked: The only positive aspect of our stay was the hotel's location, which made it easy to explore downtown San Diego on foot without needing a car.
Disliked: Stayed from April 24 to 27, 2025. The booking clearly stated that breakfast was included. On arrival: no breakfast, no explanation, no compensation. Front desk staff told us to contact manager by email or phone – but no one ever responds. The hotel is in terrible condition: broken windows, a dangerously outdated elevator, and overall poor cleanliness. The reality is nothing like the photos shown on Booking. We did not feel safe.Parking is charged at $20 per day, which is outrageous considering the low quality of the facilities. I requested a refund or goodwill gesture for breakfast, but the hotel never replied.Even worse: a security deposit (100$) was charged immediately upon arrival, instead of being held and only processed in case of damage at the end of the stay. As of today, I still haven’t been refunded for a charge that never should have been made.As for Booking? Absolutely no help. They just tell you to "work it out with the hotel," even when the hotel completely ignores all communication.Terrible experience – avoid at all costs. Neither the hotel nor Booking offers any real support.

Never again

Liked: Staff were nice
Disliked: Room smelled of chlorine bleach, needed to keep the door open to air it out. Table came with 1 chair?..Desk chair didn’t roll. Was advertised with breakfast which the stopped serving at the beginning of 2025. Room was large and looking at lights on the walls obviously many pieces of furniture missing. So no comfortable place to sit.
