Surprisingly disappointing

Liked: Ambiance and room design
Disliked: Upon arrival we were told there were only twin rooms available and that our booking did not specifically say double. When I showed him that it did say double and that their website said they still had 3 doubles available he blamed it on a system issue and gave us free parking. Bed was not comfortable. Room clean and pleasant. Cleaning staff tried to enter the room TWICE in the morning before checkout, once at 8:30 and again at 10:15! Overall not a good experience or stay.

Good hotel experience diminished slightly...

Liked: Room clean and well appointed. Great location by river for relaxing walks and also for exploring Reading. Gym clean, with high quality Technogym brand equipment.
Disliked: A distinct impression of being understaffed. Manning Reception desk with only one person on a late Friday afternoon bound to generate delays. Restaurant found it difficult to serve both a Private Function and hotel guests. Meal delayed by 40 mins but in fairness the Maitre D' did discount the bill. Saturday's breakfast crew knew when breakfast over but not that their published menu at the entrance said "All Day Brunch"!

Disappointing for the price.

Disliked: One member of staff in reception. 15 minute wait to check in. Told that the bar was a 24 hour service but it was closed after 11.00
