The Spotlight on Courtyard by Marriott Detroit Downtown

Modern comfort steps from Detroit’s biggest stages

Modern and well-equipped, the Courtyard by Marriott Detroit Downtown offers a prime location for music lovers. Nestled in the heart of downtown Detroit, this hotel is just a short walk or quick People Mover ride from major venues like Little Caesars Arena and Ford Field. With spacious rooms, an indoor pool, and river views, it’s a stylish yet relaxed base for a concert-filled weekend.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is key—and this hotel nails it. Less than 2 miles from Little Caesars Arena and about a 20-minute walk to Ford Field, you're right in the action. Even better, the hotel connects to the Detroit People Mover, making late-night rides back a breeze. Despite being in downtown, the rooms are quiet and restful, perfect for recharging after a loud night out. Flexible check-in at 4:00 PM and a convenient 11:00 AM checkout gives you time to sleep in and recover.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a central base and shared room options
  • Solo travelers catching their dream artist
  • Couples enjoying a music-filled weekend getaway
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space in a clean, comfy environment
  • Budget-conscious music fans who still want quality and location

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Courtyard Café & Bar serves up hearty late-night bites like burgers, pizza, and pot roast—ideal after a long night on your feet. A small convenience store is open for snacks and drinks at any hour, and rooms come with a fridge and coffee maker. Breakfast is available for those who need a slow start the morning after.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself is more chill than party, you're steps from downtown Detroit’s bars and lounges. Whether you're craving a casual drink or want to keep the night going, plenty of options are walkable—including a few with live music if you’re not quite ready to call it a night.

What People Say

Guests love the river views, spacious rooms, and super-convenient downtown location. Many praise the easy access to the People Mover and close proximity to concert venues. Friendly staff and clean common areas also get frequent shout-outs.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the décor is a bit dated in places, and parking can add up if you're driving. The vibe is more functional than trendy—but most agree location and comfort make up for it.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a show in downtown Detroit, Courtyard by Marriott Detroit Downtown is a convenient, comfortable home base with everything a concert-goer needs.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Cynthia, Martin, visiting The Fillmore Detroit

Liked: The beds were comfortable and the room was clean.
Disliked: No free breakfast. Coffee in the lobby - no flavored creamers. Only one mirror in the room that is in the bathroom. Only one small trash can in the room and that too was in the bathroom. For the price you pay for this hotel I expected a few more things.

Great location for getting to...

Liked: Was not aware that breakfast was available as part of the stay. Staff was very welcoming and helpful. Location close to downtown attractions and the tram for getting to the stadium was a plus for us.

Good

Liked: The room was nice & appealing to the eye. Location was close to where I needed to go.
Disliked: Whatever the man’s name that checked me in had a bad attitude. I understand being busy but there is still a job to be done & customer service is part of that job. He didn’t tell me anything about a holding fee (which I knew there was going to be. Still should have disclosed it) but instead just charged my card. I also didn’t like that there’s no microwave. I feel for the cost & location of the hotel a microwave should have been in the room. My boyfriend went to the front desk to ask that same rude man if there was anywhere we could heat food & he told him no. Idk if that was him just not wanting to be helpful again, or if the hotel really didn’t have anywhere to heat food. Either instance is insane & kind of unacceptable & I would not book again for that reason

Room was perfect. Staffed gave...

Liked: Proximity to the location we were going to was amazing, nice burger, joint with walking distance also their restaurants located at the hotel.
Disliked: Check-in time is 4 PM, I had asked for an early check-in between 2 and 3 PM because we were coming from upstate and going to a concert. We had an Uber set up to pick us up at 5 PM. When I arrived, there was a lobby full of people which is to be expected because of everything that was going on this weekend. I got to the desk and it was approximately 340 Ish only to be told that they did not have any rooms available at all and we would have to wait in the lobby and put one became available The. We’re not sure when it would be available could be as soon as 20 minutes but as most as an hour and 20 minutes, which would put us over our check in time. The guy that has didn’t really seem to get her to him. He was busy. He hit a line of other people and just told us to go have a seat. Waited for approximately 40ish and then a room was available. When we first pulled up, I asked for parking was was towed. It was around the corner. I was not interested in walking around the corner after the drive. I saw the sign that said valet was $65. I confirmed with the person that it was $65 I remember saying how much is parking she said 65 and I jokingly said oh you could take the 65 right now And decided to valet. Upon receiving my email for checkout I saw that I was charged $80 for valet. When I went to the desk to clarify what happened the same lady was at the desk and I was like no I told you it was $80 which I knew for a fact, it was not what she told me and then her coworker was like 65 is for short term parking $80 is for long-term. I don’t understand Why nobody explain that and also if I am arriving at 3:40 and my checkout time is 11 AM the next morning why is one overnight visit not considered short term I would never agree to pay $80 to park no matter how tired I am, at that point we would’ve just unloaded and then I would’ve walked around the corner after our parking.
