Liked: Very close to the station, which was important for me. Very very clean, bedroom was very nice. Rooms and corridors were spotless. Good use of lighting when you walk along corridors.
Disliked: Breakfast was disappointing. Sausages had no flavour. Bacon was preformed, not proper bacon. Baked beans were poor quality and very runny

Gone downhill

Disliked: The reason why there are no rooms available is, as the owner of the hotel explained, that there are 94 rooms and 91 of these rooms are occupied by the homeless/asylum seekers/refugees leaving you with only 3 rooms available! This was the hotel I would normally book to attend Huddersfield Carnival due to the location. The last time I stayed at this hotel was pre-COVID. I was shocked that the hotel in general had changed for the worse. The owner even had the nerve to tell me that the price I paid for a room for two nights with two guests was expensive! The homeless/asylum seekers/refugees are not allowed in the restaurant due to overcrowding so they have their breakfast delivered to their rooms. Prior to COVID the restaurant would be buzzing with paying guests but it was only myself and my friend!With regards to the breakfast even though there is a choice of Continental or English breakfast the quality of the breakfast has totally gone downhill. The bacon and sausages were not bacon or sausages, it was in all honesty, I haven’t got a clue, but the quality of the breakfast was appalling and cheap. A relative of mine came to visit me. I met her in the reception area and asked if it was OK for her to come to our room. The staff initially said it was OK but only for 5mins. Within minutes one of the staff members knocked on our door and spoke to me outside the room. He said it was the hotel policy that visitors are not allowed in the rooms as they can pose a risk such as a terrorist! I was horrified. The bedroom was well equipped but just very hot even with the window opened at its widest. Prior to COVID whenever I booked the rooms would come with two double beds. This time it was a single and double bed and the single bed looked like a children’s bed. The bathroom needs a good scrub as there were several black molds on the walls and surfaces. In all, I do not think I will be staying at this hotel again.

Liked: The staff seemed fairly welcoming, although English didn't seem to be a first language for some of them which made communication difficult. The room wasn't too bad, the beds were comfortable enough and we had what we needed for our stay in general.
Disliked: The hotel has clearly gone downhill from when we stayed before - it felt like a ghostship and we discovered it is a place that houses asylum seekers and people who have been made homeless (not their fault - there was no trouble) - but it really should make the decision to either be a fully asylum seeker/HA building, or a hotel for paying guests - the two don't mix well. It actually made us feel a little uncomfortable if I'm honest. The bar is closed which is a massive shame and the place just seems rundown in general. The breakfast, while hearty, had turkey bacon and not pork sausages, but that is a minor point. The restaurant seemed clean and pleasant.We won't be coming again although to be honest, I don't think it will be a hotel for much longer anyway.
