The Spotlight on Boat & Horses Inn

Relaxed Waterside Stay Just Outside Manchester

Modern comfort meets classic charm at the Boat & Horses Inn, a welcoming 4-star hotel in Oldham. Just a short drive from Manchester's major music venues, this friendly spot offers a laid-back vibe with scenic canal-side views and easy transport links.
Rooms are clean and simple with everything you need – flat-screen TVs, private bathrooms, and tea-making essentials. With free WiFi, a pub-style bar, and a quality British restaurant on-site, this is a cozy base for music fans looking to escape the city buzz post-show.

Why Concert-goers love it

The location is ideal for fans heading to gigs at Etihad Stadium or Manchester Arena – both under 6 miles away. After the music fades, you'll appreciate the quieter surroundings for a restful night. Need to crash quickly? The hotel offers express check-in and check-out. Public transport and rideshares are easy to grab from this area, making your late-night return smooth and simple.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a low-key base near the action
  • Solo travelers catching a dream artist and wanting a safe, quiet stay
  • Couples turning a gig into a weekend getaway
  • Fans who want to wind down in peace after the show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want quality and comfort

Food and Drink Options

The on-site restaurant serves up hearty British fare, with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options available. The bar is open late for post-show drinks, and while there's no 24-hour room service, the team is accommodating with requests. Breakfast is available – perfect for a lazy post-concert morning.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, its on-site bar is great for a relaxed pint. You're a short drive or cab ride from Manchester’s buzzing nightlife – whether that’s Northern Quarter dive bars or sleek cocktail lounges.

What People Say

Reviews praise the spotless rooms, friendly staff, and the peaceful location that’s still close enough to Manchester’s center. Guests love the pub-style vibe and value for money, especially compared to city hotels.

Areas for Improvement

It’s not in central Manchester, so you'll need to plan transport to and from your show – but most find the trade-off for peace and price well worth it. Some guests mention the lack of air conditioning in warmer months, so pack accordingly.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting affordable comfort, quieter surroundings, and easy access to Manchester venues, Boat & Horses Inn hits all the right notes.

OK but should haver been...

Liked: Room was Ok and comfortable.Plenty of free parking.J W Lees beer.Walk in shower.
Disliked: Unfriendly receptionist who struggled to find our bookings, and said we may have to wait for rooms to be made available, at after 3.30pm.Very complicated wifi access rouitines.Breakfast was self service and hence cold. "HOT" water for tea was nowhere near hot enough to brew tea. Piles of undercooked bacon must have been laying in the servery for ages. Cooked breakfasts should be made to order. No marmalade (out of stock - there is a Costco opposite!!A little expensive for what it was. They bombard you with at least two spam emails per day

Great for a short stay.

Liked: Convenient location for Oldham town centre. We had booked a family room but the sofa bed hadn’t been made up. The man on reception responded very quickly and made the bed up for us whilst we went for food in the pub next door.
Disliked: Nothing, it was fine for 1 night stay.
