The Spotlight on Apollo Hotel

Classic Comfort Just Minutes from Birmingham's Music Scene

Modern yet unpretentious, the Apollo Hotel offers an affordable and laid-back stay in the Edgbaston area, just a short drive from central Birmingham. With easy access to the NEC, ICC, and Birmingham New Street Station, it’s a smart base for anyone heading into the city for a show or festival.
Whether you're catching a concert downtown or heading to a major event at the National Indoor Arena, you'll appreciate the hotel's relaxed vibe and practical location.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is key—and Apollo Hotel delivers. You're just a few minutes by car or train from top music venues, with Birmingham New Street Station and major roadways close by. Despite its proximity to nightlife, the hotel is tucked just far enough away to offer a quieter night's sleep post-show. With a 12:00 PM check-out, you won’t need to rush out the door the morning after. Plus, late-night transport options are easily accessible.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable base before and after the gig
  • Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list live show
  • Couples making a weekend of it with nearby countryside escapes
  • Fans wanting a calmer spot to recharge after the encore
  • Budget-conscious music fans who don’t want to compromise on location

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel doesn’t offer 24/7 room service, it does have a restaurant and bar onsite, great for a pre-show bite or a nightcap. You’ll find late-night eateries within walking distance, and breakfast is served in the morning—ideal after a late night out.

Nightlife Options

Birmingham’s vibrant nightlife is close by. The hotel is just a short walk or quick cab ride from popular clubs, bars, and live music venues. Back at the hotel, the casual bar serves up local drinks in a relaxed setting—perfect for unwinding without the crowds.

What People Say

Guests love the free parking, spacious rooms, and friendly staff. Many mention the hotel's great access to city venues and the value it offers compared to more central hotels. It’s often praised for being quiet at night—a bonus after a loud gig.

Areas for Improvement

The décor is a little dated in places, and some guests feel the hotel could benefit from a refresh. Wi-Fi can be spotty in certain rooms, so plan accordingly if you're planning to stream or share concert photos.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a convenient, no-fuss place to crash after a show in Birmingham, Apollo Hotel hits the right notes.

Not too bad but left...

Liked: Convenient location.
Disliked: Left some property there which, when contacted, the hotel would not return and placed in storage. Despite me offering to pay for any courier fee etc.. I live 100 miles and 2hrs away! The room was also next to a boiler or plant room (only realised the morning after). The room was insanely hot.

A good hotel, walking distance...

Liked: The hotel suite was large, slept 6 even though we booked a room for 4. It was clean, a little dated but did everything we needed from a hotel room.
Disliked: It was a very warm room. This meant we had to have the windows open and the roads outside were loud but it wasn't too bad.

Only if desperate

Liked: The location is only a 5 minute drive from the city centre. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was decent but a bit basic (£8.50 per person did seem a bit on the expensive side). The staff all seemed friendly enough but nothing special.
Disliked: The room was poorly ventilated and had a fusty smell and on what was a very hot day, no fans were available from reception but this was made worse by having the towel rail permanently on with no way to turn it down. The property itself looked more like a set of run down council flats than a hotel. When closing the curtain it began to fall off the other side of the rail and the bathroom door wouldn't close without a slam. If you are desperate for a place to sleep there's a bed and a bathroom but otherwise I'd look elsewhere.
