The Spotlight on Alexandra Hotel

Classic Charm Near the Beat of the City

Just a short stroll from the energy of central London, the Alexandra Hotel offers budget-friendly comfort in a classic Victorian townhouse. Nestled in the elegant Paddington neighborhood, this hotel is only a 5-minute walk from Paddington Station and a 15-minute walk to the buzz of Oxford Street. With Hyde Park just around the corner, you’re never far from green space—and even closer to London’s top live music venues.

Rooms are traditionally decorated and include all the essentials—TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, and private bathrooms. A 24-hour front desk ensures a smooth stay, any time of day or night.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and Alexandra Hotel nails it. With quick access to Paddington and Lancaster Gate Underground stations, you can be at your gig—and back again—without breaking a sweat. The hotel’s central spot means late-night transport options are plentiful, and the peaceful residential setting helps with post-show recovery. 24-hour reception is a bonus for those coming in late after encore performances.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable, central base
  • Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist
  • Couples making a weekend of it near Hyde Park
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want location without the hefty price tag

Food and Drink Options

The hotel offers a light continental breakfast—ideal if you’re grabbing something quick after a late night. While there’s no on-site restaurant for lunch or dinner, you’re spoiled for choice with plenty of cafés and restaurants just a few minutes’ walk away. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a sit-down meal, you won’t go hungry.

Nightlife Options

While the Alexandra Hotel itself doesn’t offer live music or a bar, its central location puts you close to some of the best pubs, lounges, and music venues in London. From cozy Paddington pubs to late-night spots near Oxford Street, you’re well-positioned for pre- or post-show drinks.

What People Say

  • “Great location—close to transport and walking distance to many sites.”
  • “Clean rooms and friendly 24-hour staff.”
  • “Perfect base for a short London trip.”
  • “Good value for money in central London.”

Areas for Improvement

Rooms are on the smaller side and the décor is a bit dated—but for most concert-goers, the location and price make up for it. Some guests mention basic amenities, so pack your own extras if you're particular.

The Bottom Line

If you’re after an affordable, no-fuss stay near major music venues and transport links, the Alexandra Hotel hits all the right notes.

Short stay, good position but...

Liked: Perfect position, it served the purpose I needed it for.
Disliked: It was a very warm day but the radiator was so hot in the bathroom. When reception was called about the issue they said it is on a timer and there is no way to turn it off, but it never turned off and we were feeling unwell in there from the heat.

Worst overnight stay in seven...

Liked: The best thing about the Alexandra Hotel is the location, as it is very close to Paddington Station. Apart from that, the water pressure of the shower was great.
Disliked: We were rather taken aback by the impersonal demeanour of the man on reception during the day. Conversely, the young man on reception at night was a lot friendlier. We were allocated a ground floor room which was approximately 8 degrees warmer than the temperature outside. We had the fan on high all night, the window fully open and still found a lack of ventilation in the room. It was a dilemma: close the window or breathe air and put up with the noise. We chose to put up with the noise. Mattresses are long overdue for replacement. There was no mattress protector on the bed and the mattress was stained. The mattress felt like I was sleeping on a life size kitchen sponge. I commented to reception that the door wouldn’t lock from the inside. He said the whole hotel was like that and the locks had been disabled. Not very comforting from the point of view of security. Breakfast was barely adequate. I asked if I could have some fresh toast, when I saw the mountain of precooked toast on a plate. One of the staff offered to warm a piece up for me.I declined. The table at which we sat still had egg shell on it from the previous guest. Never again!
