The Spotlight on Alexandra Hotel

Classic Charm Near the Beat of the City

Just a short stroll from the energy of central London, the Alexandra Hotel offers budget-friendly comfort in a classic Victorian townhouse. Nestled in the elegant Paddington neighborhood, this hotel is only a 5-minute walk from Paddington Station and a 15-minute walk to the buzz of Oxford Street. With Hyde Park just around the corner, you’re never far from green space—and even closer to London’s top live music venues.

Rooms are traditionally decorated and include all the essentials—TV, tea and coffee-making facilities, a hairdryer, and private bathrooms. A 24-hour front desk ensures a smooth stay, any time of day or night.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and Alexandra Hotel nails it. With quick access to Paddington and Lancaster Gate Underground stations, you can be at your gig—and back again—without breaking a sweat. The hotel’s central spot means late-night transport options are plentiful, and the peaceful residential setting helps with post-show recovery. 24-hour reception is a bonus for those coming in late after encore performances.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for an affordable, central base
  • Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist
  • Couples making a weekend of it near Hyde Park
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music fans who want location without the hefty price tag

Food and Drink Options

The hotel offers a light continental breakfast—ideal if you’re grabbing something quick after a late night. While there’s no on-site restaurant for lunch or dinner, you’re spoiled for choice with plenty of cafés and restaurants just a few minutes’ walk away. Whether you’re in the mood for a quick bite or a sit-down meal, you won’t go hungry.

Nightlife Options

While the Alexandra Hotel itself doesn’t offer live music or a bar, its central location puts you close to some of the best pubs, lounges, and music venues in London. From cozy Paddington pubs to late-night spots near Oxford Street, you’re well-positioned for pre- or post-show drinks.

What People Say

  • “Great location—close to transport and walking distance to many sites.”
  • “Clean rooms and friendly 24-hour staff.”
  • “Perfect base for a short London trip.”
  • “Good value for money in central London.”

Areas for Improvement

Rooms are on the smaller side and the décor is a bit dated—but for most concert-goers, the location and price make up for it. Some guests mention basic amenities, so pack your own extras if you're particular.

The Bottom Line

If you’re after an affordable, no-fuss stay near major music venues and transport links, the Alexandra Hotel hits all the right notes.

Liked: Good location
Disliked: Very dated and very small rooms, we had a superior double and was absolutely tiny. No air con so would not recommend staying here in the summer like we did! Had to get up 5/6 times in the night for a cold shower to keep cool!!

Would stay a gain but...

Liked: The location was great and the room was spacious.
Disliked: The decor is tired, the breakfast was ok but some hot food wouldn't go amiss. I stay quite a bit in London so this felt below average in places I've stayed that offer that. Some smiley staff would be a plus as well, as the receptionist wasn't a happy soul!

For the price, this was...

Liked: Location:The only real positive is the location — it's close to Paddington Station, which makes transport easy. But that’s where the positives end. What went well?Check-in was fast, but the staff made it feel like a chore — cold and dismissive.
Disliked: Room:The room was extremely small, old, and dusty. There was no air conditioning — which was awful during an English heatwave in mid-June. The sink had mold, and the bedding included a thick comforter that clearly doesn't get washed between guests. You don’t know if you're sleeping in filth or cleanliness — and that uncertainty is unacceptable at this price.Breakfast:I didn’t try the breakfast, so I can’t comment on that. But there isn’t even a safe luggage room where you can leave your bags if you want to sightsee before your flight or train — again, something that should be standard. What didn’t you like? The service was terrible. The receptionist was rude, barely looked at us, and made us feel unwelcome. For the price, the quality of the room and the overall experience was extremely disappointing. What could have been better? The staff’s attitude. The cleanliness. Basic amenities like AC. Luggage storage. A feeling of actual hospitality.Extra note:In Paris, even in small hotel rooms, you often get better service, cleaner spaces, and more thoughtful amenities. Alexandra Hotel should take notes — London guests deserve better.

Pleasant

Liked: I have stayed here twice before and been totally satisfied. It is clean and cheap. Location is wonderful. Most of the reception staff are friendly and the breakfast team great.
Disliked: What I didn't like was Management's way of dealing with a difficult situation. There was a gentleman the floor below us who we later found out was receiving medical treatment at a local hospital and needed complete quiet. Pretty hard to manage this in a hotel when people come and go at all hours. We stayed 8 nights and were booked on a number of tours with early starts. Seemed we made far too much noise for this person. We are older ladies (60's and 70's). We came back late one night and pretty much went straight to bed. Our Footsteps on the floor were too much and the level of abuse we received was unbelievable. Management should have changed our room then as we suggested. They did not! We had another instance of abuse before they did. I have stayed in many hotels and never had anything like this before. It could have been dealt with far better. Because of this, I will never stay there again.
