Lyssa, Hamilton, visiting Town Ballroom Fri, 8 November 2019

The front desk staff were very accommodating and helpful. We came from out of the country after working overnights for the night to see a concert and the staff let us get our room earlier than expected and were very friendly. The room was small but perfect and I loved the look of the hotel and the old school feel.

Liked: The customer service and look of the hotel.
Disliked: Nothing.

We absolutely loved it overall. Staff was super friendly and extremely helpful. We will definitely stay again!

Liked: Reminded me of American Horror Story Hotel Cortez - I loved how original it was. Impresssed with the ceiling height. How thick and heavy the bathroom door was and actually used a real key!
Disliked: Scalding hot shower - no cold water what so ever.

Great vintage hotel with charm...

Liked: Room was very clean, and the hotel staff checked me in promptly
Disliked: I had no complaints, if you don't like something dated, don't go. But if you want a hotel that differentiates itself from every chain, I cannot recommend it enough for the price

A Nice, Clean Place To...

Liked: We were travelling to Buffalo to see the Toronto Maple Leafs play the Buffalo Sabres and decided it would be fun to spend the night. We wanted to bring our doggie too, so we needed to find a pet friendly place that would be close enough to the KeyBank Center and the Anchor Bar, where we wanted to have dinner. We found this pleasant looking hotel, which advertises itself as the oldest Hotel in Buffalo. We opted for the Double Room that came with 2 Double Beds. The price was $232 for the night including taxes and with a $25 surcharge for our dog.We had to wait a little while at check-in while the girl working the counter checked in other guests. Her name was Sam and she was very friendly and helpful. We were able to get our room keys (yes - actual keys) and check into our room pretty quickly. It was a nice room with a nicely appointed bathroom. There was no Air-Conditioning and the room was pretty stuffy, so we had to open the windows to cool it off.Later that night I had to go down to the front desk to ask for a bathtub plug as there wasn't one in the room and we wanted to have a bath - Sam was able to find one for me pretty quick. The elevator is old but fast and its obvious that there are a lot of people living in this hotel, which isn't necessarily a bad thing - as far as Im concerned it makes it quite safe.We walked down the street a couple of blocks to the Anchor Bar for dinner and then caught an Uber to see the game. When we returned we needed to air out the room again as it had gotten quite stuffy while we were gone. Even though we were up on the 7th floor it was quite noisy outside from the street and there was some kind of 24 hour pharmacy just below us that had people screaming and fighting at times.Overall, it was a pleasant stay, the staff were great and the price wasn't too bad.
Disliked: it was stuffy, no air-conditioning and it was a little noisy at night from the street

Stay if You Can't Find...

Liked: Good location in an interesting historic building. On-site free parking a plus. Great view of the city.
Disliked: Walls are like cardboard. I could hear everyone's conversations passing by. Might as well have slept in the lobby. Heaters are super noisy. Bed is not the most comfortable.

Will not return

Liked: The room was clean (at least) but smelled a lot like bleach. The (female) receptionist that assisted us when we arrived was very kind and gentle.
Disliked: The facilities are old, but you can hear everything from everywhere. We got a room on the first floor and couldn’t open the curtains because I could see the person in the room next to ours, as well as people in the parking lot. There were people screaming and yelling at 2am, slamming doors as well. You can hear the printer and fax from the front desk.

Very good

Liked: The hotel staff
Disliked: The hotel. It resembles a hostel. The bathrooms, room, "kitchen", bedding, and elevator needs to be updated. It shouldn't have been 200 for 1 night, more like $100 with tax. Also, there's no way to enter AND exit thru the back door. The parking lot is on the side and you have to walk around to the front of the building to gain access. There are also STEPS leading to the front desk, so this hotel isn't handicapped/wheelchair friendly. I have bad knees, slipped disks...going up those 10 steps was a lot for me. As well as the elevator reminded of the elevator in the movie, The Shinning. They didn't have directional signs to tell you which hallway to travel down, in order to get to your room. You had to figure it out, after walking down all the hallways. The room "keys" are just that, A KEY. A front door house key. So no updated sense of security. I did see cameras in 2 hallways I went down, however the door that is supposed to half a bolt lock on it, didn't work. There was a stove, literally next too the bed. Which I find is a super fire hazard.
