The Spotlight on Tsunami

Fresh Seafood and Global Flavors in the Heart of Cooper-Young

Located in the lively Cooper-Young district, just a short drive from Memphis’ biggest concert venues, Tsunami serves up globally inspired seafood in a trendy yet relaxed setting. With a focus on sustainable ingredients and bold Pacific Rim flavors, this cozy spot has remained a local favorite since opening in 1998. The interior is modern and artfully decorated, featuring rotating local artwork and soft lighting—perfect for a pre-show dinner or a chill night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

Tsunami’s location is a major plus—it’s just minutes from popular music venues, making it a convenient stop before the show. The menu is designed for flexibility, with small plates and shareable options that are ideal for quick service without sacrificing quality. The atmosphere is laid-back but stylish, with a noise level that allows for conversation—great for groups or couples gearing up for a night of music.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to share small plates before the show
  • Solo travelers enjoying a bite before a concert
  • Couples on a romantic Memphis weekend
  • Fans wanting a lively pre-show space with good vibes
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who appreciate quality and value

What People Say

Reviewers on TripAdvisor and OpenTable consistently praise Tsunami’s creative seafood dishes, especially the signature sea bass and scallop specials. The service is described as attentive and knowledgeable, with staff happy to make recommendations for both food and wine. Guests love the rotating seasonal menu and the restaurant’s commitment to fresh, high-quality ingredients. Many diners note the intimate feel of the space, calling it a "hidden gem" of the Memphis dining scene.

Areas for Improvement

While most guests rave about their experience, a few note that the space can feel a bit tight during peak hours. Reservations are recommended if you’re dining before a show. Also, the menu leans more upscale, so those on a strict budget might want to stick to the small plates and happy hour offerings.

The Bottom Line

With its bold flavors, laid-back vibe, and prime location near Memphis music venues, Tsunami is a top pick for concert-goers looking to elevate their night out.
