About The Stand
The Spotlight on The Stand

Italian Comfort Food with a Side of NYC Energy

Located in Manhattan’s bustling Union Square, The Stand blends the charm of a modern Italian trattoria with the pulse of New York City nightlife. It’s not just a restaurant — it’s also a popular comedy club, making it a go-to spot for food, drinks, and laughs all under one roof. With stylish, low-lit interiors and a buzzy crowd, The Stand is only a short walk from several major concert venues, making it an ideal pre-show dinner destination or post-show hangout.

Why Concert-goers love it

Quick service, a central location, and a fun, energetic vibe make The Stand a hit with music fans. The menu features elevated Italian fare that’s easy to enjoy without a long wait, and the downstairs comedy club keeps the good times rolling after your concert. The upstairs lounge and dining area tend to stay lively but never too loud, so you can still chat about setlists and favorite tracks over a cocktail or shared plate.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to kick off the night with food and laughs
  • Solo travelers who want a welcoming bar and fun crowd
  • Couples combining a romantic dinner with a concert date
  • Fans wanting a vibrant pre-show atmosphere
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who appreciate happy hour deals and hearty portions

What People Say

Reviewers on TripAdvisor and OpenTable rave about the friendly staff, craft cocktails, and the “delicious, creative takes on Italian classics.” Many guests praise the restaurant’s upstairs-downstairs setup, letting you choose between a lively comedy show or a more relaxed dining experience. The truffle cacio e pepe and crispy Brussels sprouts are frequently mentioned as must-try dishes. Several diners note it's a perfect spot to grab dinner before heading to nearby music events.

Areas for Improvement

Some visitors mention the comedy club area can get crowded on weekends, and that the volume downstairs may not be for everyone — especially if you’re looking for a quiet bite. Reservations are recommended, especially around showtime, to avoid longer waits.

The Bottom Line

With tasty Italian fare, a prime location, and a built-in dose of entertainment, The Stand is a smart and stylish pick for concert-goers looking to fuel up and have some fun.

l Went to the early show and sat outside. The best humor I’ve heard in decades. Felt so good to laugh out loud. Great reprieve. Food melted in my mouth, new Chef and menu. Thanks to the staff.
