About The Lamplighter Public House
The Spotlight on The Lamplighter Public House

Classic Gastropub Vibes in the Heart of Gastown

Set in the heart of historic Gastown, The Lamplighter Public House is one of Vancouver’s oldest and most beloved pubs. A short walk from several major concert venues, it blends heritage charm with modern gastropub fare. Think exposed brick walls, cozy booths, and a rotating selection of craft beers. The menu leans into comfort food favorites with a West Coast twist—expect hearty burgers, fish and chips, and shareable plates that pair perfectly with pre-show drinks.

Why Concert-goers love it

This spot is a go-to for pre-show meetups thanks to its laid-back atmosphere, prompt service, and central location. It's only a few minutes' walk from popular venues, making it ideal for a quick bite or round of drinks before the music starts. The noise level is lively but not overwhelming, and there's usually room for walk-ins if you come early. With plenty of TVs and a buzzing bar scene, it’s also great for killing time if you’re waiting for doors to open.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for shareable apps and good beer
  • Solo travelers wanting a friendly bar vibe
  • Couples enjoying a romantic night out with live music
  • Fans craving a lively pre-show space
  • Budget-conscious concert-goers who want tasty food without breaking the bank

What People Say

Reviews on TripAdvisor and OpenTable praise the Lamplighter for its friendly staff, solid pub fare, and great drink specials. Many guests love the historic atmosphere and say it’s a “perfect starting point” for a night out in Vancouver. The burger and beer combo gets frequent shoutouts, and the variety of local brews is a hit with both tourists and locals alike. Several mention how quickly food arrives, making it an ideal choice if you're on a tight show schedule.

Areas for Improvement

It can get a bit crowded on weekends, especially around peak concert times, so seating may be tight if you don’t arrive early. Some reviewers note that it can be a little noisy inside—but for many, that’s part of the fun, especially if you're heading to a high-energy show.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a laid-back, quick, and tasty spot near Vancouver’s music venues, The Lamplighter Public House hits all the right notes.

The food was excellent; staff very friendly, and food service was very quick. The restaurant has a very warm atmosphere and old fashioned ambience.

Liked: With the Lamplighter being a 100 year old establishment, I appreciate that it kept a lot of the original decor. It gave the restaurant a warm ambience.
Disliked: None.
