Located on the iconic Dunster Street in Harvard Square, The Hourly Oyster House blends classic New England seafood with a stylish, urban vibe. Set in a historic building that once served as a 19th-century stagecoach stop, this casual-yet-polished spot is known for its raw bar, creative cocktails, and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're heading to a nearby concert or just looking for a relaxed bite, The Hourly delivers a slice of coastal flavor right in the heart of Cambridge.
Its prime Harvard Square location puts it within walking distance of several live music venues, making it a favorite pre-show meet-up. The service is consistently described as quick and attentive, so you won’t be late for the opening act. With its upbeat energy, it's easy to grab a table (or a bar stool) before a show, enjoy a dozen oysters or a lobster roll, and head out with time to spare.
Guests rave about the ultra-fresh oysters, the lobster mac and cheese, and the friendly, knowledgeable staff. The cocktail program gets high marks, especially for its inventive spins on classics. Many reviews highlight the casual but chic ambiance and appreciate how easy it is to stop in before a show without a long wait. The outdoor patio is a crowd-pleaser in warmer months.
Some diners note that the dining room can get a bit noisy during peak hours, so it might not be ideal for a quiet conversation. Others mention that portions can lean on the smaller side, especially for appetizers—but most agree the quality makes up for it.
The Hourly Oyster House is a top pick for concert-goers craving fresh seafood, fun vibes, and fast service—all just steps from Cambridge's best live music spots.

We spent a leisurely lunch before the UMASS/Harvard basketball game, and our wait staff was wonderful, letting us just keep ordering more over the hour and a half we were there. I have to say, the bartender is an artist. I had the Lady Almathea, and a cosmo. As good or better than any drinks I've ever experienced (only other comparable was in NY city). I'm going to try to create one at home, as I didn't see a recipe on-line for the Lady Almathea.
Liked: The oysters. The grilled octopus. The shrimp cocktail. The cocktails.
