The Cork & Bottle - Leicester SquareThe Cork & Bottle - Leicester Square, 44-46 Cranbourn Street, London |
Tucked just off Leicester Square, The Cork & Bottle is a beloved London wine bar known for its warm, rustic charm and impressive wine selection. With its candlelit cellar vibe, exposed brick walls, and inviting wooden interiors, it offers a cozy escape from the city's hustle—while still being right in the middle of it. Serving up Contemporary European dishes with flair, it’s a stylish but relaxed spot, ideal for winding down or gearing up before a show.
Located just steps from major West End theatres and music venues, The Cork & Bottle is a prime pick for pre-show dining. The atmosphere is intimate yet buzzy, with fast, friendly service that ensures you can eat and dash if needed. The menu isn’t fussy, but it’s full of flavour—perfect for a quick bite or a more leisurely dinner before catching your favourite act.
Diners on TripAdvisor and OpenTable rave about the extensive wine list, calling it “a hidden gem” with a “fab selection of wines by the glass.” The cheese and meat boards are consistent crowd-pleasers, and many reviewers praise the knowledgeable staff who help match wines to your taste. The underground setting also gets high marks for its atmosphere and character, often described as “romantic,” “quirky,” and “cosy.”
The intimate space can get a little crowded, especially on weekends, so booking ahead is a good idea. A few diners noted that the lighting is quite dim—great for ambience, but maybe not ideal if you’re trying to read the menu without your phone torch!
The Cork & Bottle is a cozy, character-filled spot just a short stroll from London’s top venues—perfect for a delicious, relaxed bite and a great glass of wine before the music starts.

This is the second time I have been here and it was every bit as good as the first. The staff are really friendly and the service was great! The choice of food and drink included something for everyone's taste. Great place for a pre theatre dinner or any other time!

Would never have known it was there - as echoed by other visitors. Attracts a cross-section of visitors and staff work hard. Menu selection and quality excellent: the exact flexibility we were hoping from a pre-theatre meal. Highly recommended.
Liked: Ambience; service; location.
Disliked: Make sure you book!
