Traditional British Pub Charm Just Steps from the Action

Located in the heart of Newcastle's vibrant Quayside, The Broad Chare delivers a classic pub atmosphere with a modern twist. This cozy yet bustling gastropub is known for its unfussy British comfort food, cask ales, and welcoming vibe. Just a short walk from some of the city’s most popular music venues, it’s a convenient and character-filled spot to grab a bite before a show.

Why Concert-goers love it

With its close proximity to O2 City Hall and Sage Gateshead, concert-goers love The Broad Chare for its quick service and lively but not overwhelming atmosphere. You'll find pre-show diners tucking into fish and chips or Scotch eggs before heading out. The venue stays relatively quiet during early evening hours, making it an ideal place to relax, chat, and fuel up without missing a beat.

Who this Restaurant is great for

What People Say

Reviewers on TripAdvisor and OpenTable rave about the top-notch pub food, especially the Sunday roasts, pies, and the “legendary” bar snacks like pork scratchings and rarebit. The authentic atmosphere and knowledgeable, friendly staff also get consistent praise. Many diners comment on the great value for money and the quality of the rotating local ales.

Areas for Improvement

While generally well-loved, a few guests mention that the pub can get quite busy on weekends, so reservations are recommended. Others note that the menu is fairly traditional, which may not suit those looking for trendier or more international fare.

The Bottom Line

A warm and welcoming British pub that hits the right notes for concert-goers craving a satisfying pre-show meal and a pint in good company.
