Located in Midtown Detroit on Woodward Avenue, The Block is a modern comfort food restaurant with a laid-back, welcoming vibe. With its casual dress code and upbeat energy, it's a go-to for locals and visitors looking for hearty eats and good company. Just a short walk or quick ride from some of Detroit’s top music venues, it’s ideally placed for a pre-show meal or post-concert bite.
The Block serves up elevated takes on soul food classics—from wings and waffles to shrimp and grits—paired with creative cocktails and craft beers. The space strikes the right balance between stylish and unpretentious, with high-top tables, booths for groups, and a bar that’s always buzzing.
Location, location, location: The Block is just minutes from Detroit’s biggest concert halls, making it a favorite for fans looking to grab a quick, satisfying bite before the show. The service is known for being efficient and friendly, so you won’t feel rushed or worried about missing your opener. Noise levels are lively but not overwhelming—perfect for getting hyped without shouting over your meal.
Reviews on TripAdvisor and OpenTable highlight generous portions, flavorful dishes, and a warm, upbeat atmosphere. Visitors love the shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, and the signature sweet potato pancakes. Many mention the great value for the quality, and locals appreciate that it's a spot where you can eat well without dressing up or breaking the bank.
A few diners mention that it can get busy on weekends, especially before big events, so reservations or arriving early are recommended. Parking can also be a bit tight during peak hours—something to plan for if you're short on time before a show.
The Block is a lively, delicious, and convenient stop for concert-goers craving comfort food and good vibes just steps from Detroit's music scene.

Our experience here was first rate. The stuffed chicken thighs with collard greens and sweet potato muffins were one of the best plates we have had in the last 6 months. All food was well-seasoned and presented well. Prices were reasonable.
Liked: Food flavor, presentation and staff.
Disliked: Nothing.
