About Ship Tavern
The Spotlight on Ship Tavern

Historic Pub Vibes in the Heart of Downtown Denver

Located inside the iconic Brown Palace Hotel, Ship Tavern is a cozy, vintage-style American restaurant offering a welcoming escape just minutes from downtown Denver’s top music venues. With dark wood accents, nautical decor, and a laid-back atmosphere, it’s the perfect mix of old-school charm and casual comfort. Known for its hearty pub fare, craft beers, and live music, it’s a go-to spot for both locals and visitors alike.

Why Concert-goers love it

Ship Tavern is a quick walk from major downtown concert halls, making it ideal for grabbing a bite before your show. The atmosphere is lively but never too loud, and the service is consistently praised for being efficient and friendly—a big plus when you’re on a schedule. The restaurant also features live jazz music several nights a week, which sets the mood perfectly for an evening out. No need to rush—Ship Tavern’s kitchen delivers satisfying meals at a pace that respects your ticket time.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to kick off the night with classic burgers and beers
  • Solo travelers who enjoy a bar with character and live music
  • Couples seeking a unique and charming dinner spot before the show
  • Fans wanting a lively pre-show space with great ambiance
  • Budget-conscious music fans who still want a quality experience

What People Say

Reviewers love the historic setting and the friendly, attentive staff. Many rave about the prime rib sandwich and New England-style clam chowder, calling them must-tries. The bar is often noted for its solid selection of local brews and classic cocktails. Guests also appreciate the live jazz performances, which add an authentic touch to the already inviting atmosphere.

Areas for Improvement

While most diners enjoy the old-world charm, some mention that the décor feels a bit dated. A few guests noted that the menu, while satisfying, isn’t particularly adventurous—so if you’re looking for bold culinary innovation, this may not be your spot. Also, being located in a historic hotel means it can get busy with non-concert-going guests too.

The Bottom Line

Ship Tavern pairs classic comfort food, live music, and historic charm with a convenient downtown location—making it a reliable and enjoyable pick for any concert-goer in Denver.
