About Saltwater Fish Company
The Spotlight on Saltwater Fish Company

Fresh, Stylish Seafood in the Heart of Newcastle

Located inside the iconic Fenwick’s Food Hall in central Newcastle, Saltwater Fish Company serves up fresh, sustainably sourced seafood in a chic, modern setting. With its open-kitchen bar concept, guests can watch chefs prepare oysters, crab, and seasonal fish dishes right before their eyes. The vibe is relaxed yet refined—ideal for those heading out to a show, or winding down after one.

Why Concert-goers love it

Saltwater Fish Company is just a short walk from Newcastle’s major concert venues, making it a convenient stop before the music starts. The counter-style seating and quick, attentive service make it easy to enjoy a high-quality meal without worrying about missing the opening act. Despite being located in a busy food hall, the noise level is surprisingly moderate—lively but never overwhelming. It’s a great pre-show experience with a touch of sophistication.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a shared seafood platter before the show
  • Solo travelers who want a casual yet upscale bar seat with great food
  • Couples enjoying a romantic night out with oysters and wine
  • Fans after a vibrant, buzzing pre-concert atmosphere
  • Budget-conscious music fans who still want fresh, high-quality seafood

What People Say

Reviews on TripAdvisor and OpenTable often rave about the “exceptionally fresh seafood” and “friendly, knowledgeable staff.” Guests love the open kitchen concept, calling it “entertaining and immersive,” and frequently mention the oysters as a must-try. Many diners highlight how easily they were able to grab a spot and enjoy a quick but memorable pre-show dinner.

Areas for Improvement

While the bar-style seating provides a fun, interactive experience, it may not be the most comfortable for longer meals or larger groups. Also, because it’s inside a department store, the ambiance may lack the evening vibes some concert-goers seek. That said, the quality of food more than makes up for it.

The Bottom Line

If you're after fresh seafood, fast service, and a stylish setting just steps from Newcastle’s music scene, Saltwater Fish Company is a top pick.

l Awesome dining experience in the centre of the city. Polite and attentive staff, diverse menu and extensive wine list. If you need a pit-stop whilst shopping this is definitely worthwhile.
