The Spotlight on Prohibition

Vintage Vibes and Modern Bites in the Heart of Charleston

Prohibition is a stylish, 1920s-inspired American restaurant and bar located on bustling King Street in downtown Charleston. Just a short walk from several major concert venues, this spot blends craft cocktails, elevated comfort food, and a lively, speakeasy-style atmosphere that makes it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. With polished wood interiors, live jazz, and mixology that nods to the past, it’s a place where classic charm meets contemporary cuisine.

Why Concert-goers love it

Prohibition is just minutes from some of Charleston’s most popular music venues, making it an ideal stop for a pre-show meal or drink. The service is known for being fast and friendly, so if you're on a tight schedule, you won't have to worry about missing your opener. The vibrant atmosphere—with live jazz nights and a buzzing bar scene—sets the perfect tone for an evening of music. Plus, the menu offers shareable plates and quick bites, ideal for groups heading to a show.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun and social pre-show vibe
  • Solo travelers wanting to enjoy a great meal and live music before the concert
  • Couples on a romantic night out in Charleston
  • Fans looking for a lively, energetic space to kick off their concert night
  • Budget-conscious music fans who still want high-quality food and drinks

What People Say

Guests rave about the creative cocktails and top-notch bartending, often calling it one of the best cocktail bars in the city. The live music and jazz acts are a consistent highlight, adding to the immersive, vintage feel. Diners also appreciate the diverse American menu, which features everything from duck confit fried rice to truffle fries. Many reviewers mention the excellent service and friendly staff who go out of their way to accommodate busy schedules.

Areas for Improvement

While the music adds great ambiance, it can get loud during peak hours, so those looking for a quiet dinner before a show might want to arrive earlier. Some guests also note that weekend crowds can make it a bit tough to grab a table without a reservation.

The Bottom Line

With its vintage flair, energetic vibe, and convenient location, Prohibition is a go-to spot for concert-goers looking to dine and unwind before the show.

l Below average service. Drinks are way too small and purposely so. Ridiculous actually. That and the smart mouth jumped up little Paddy bartender will see the wrong side of someone soon enough.
