Nakama Sushi is a sleek, modern Japanese restaurant located in San Francisco's Civic Center neighborhood, just a short walk from some of the city's top live music venues. With its welcoming atmosphere, clean design, and commitment to high-quality sushi, it's become a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. Whether you're heading to a concert or exploring the area, Nakama offers a menu full of fresh sashimi, creative rolls, and tasty small plates in a laid-back setting that doesn’t feel rushed—unless you need it to be.
This spot is just minutes from several major performance spaces, making it ideal for a pre-show dinner. The service is notably quick and efficient, so you won’t be late to your event. Guests often mention that the vibe is energetic but not too loud—perfect for getting into the concert mood without feeling overwhelmed. Plus, the sushi here is light and satisfying, so you’ll feel fueled up without being weighed down.
Reviewers on TripAdvisor and OpenTable consistently praise Nakama's fresh ingredients, fair prices, and friendly staff. Many note that the restaurant has a casual, comfortable vibe that’s perfect for a relaxed meal before heading out. The spicy tuna roll and salmon nigiri get frequent shoutouts, and diners love the quick seating and attentive service even during busy hours.
Some guests mention that the space can feel a bit tight during peak hours, especially on big event nights. A few note that the menu is somewhat limited for non-sushi eaters, so it may not be ideal if you're with someone who isn’t a fan of Japanese cuisine. That said, what they do serve, they do well.
If you’re looking for fresh sushi, fast service, and a fun atmosphere just steps from San Francisco’s top concert venues, Nakama Sushi hits all the right notes.

Small, cozy, authentic Japanese restaurants, with very fresh options. Chose this restaurant because of proximity to Jazz Center and glad we did!
Liked: Quality of food, authenticity and friendly service.
Disliked: Limited wine menu, especially by the glass. But good choices of sake and beers.
