About Lonnie’s Reno Club
The Spotlight on Lonnie’s Reno Club

Vintage Vibes and Live Jazz Just Steps from the Stage

Located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, Lonnie’s Reno Club is a chic underground jazz lounge that transports you back to the city’s 1940s golden era. Tucked inside the Ambassador Hotel, this intimate spot is all about live music, classic cocktails, and a timeless atmosphere. With its speakeasy-style entrance, candlelit tables, and stylish decor, it’s a refined yet relaxed place for music fans to gather before heading to a nearby show.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert-goers love Lonnie’s Reno Club for its live jazz performances that set the mood for a night of music. Located just blocks away from Kansas City’s major venues, it’s perfect for grabbing a drink and soaking in some pre-show energy. The prix fixe dinner menu is well-timed for pre-concert dining, and service is known to be prompt without feeling rushed. The cozy, low-lit atmosphere makes it ideal for winding down after a high-energy show too.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a classy but fun pre-show hangout
  • Solo travelers wanting to enjoy live music and good vibes
  • Couples on a date night or romantic concert weekend
  • Jazz fans seeking a lively space with authentic KC roots
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who appreciate value in a prix fixe menu

What People Say

According to reviews on TripAdvisor and OpenTable, guests rave about the exceptional live jazz performances and the nostalgic ambiance. The prix fixe menu receives high marks for both quality and presentation, and many mention the attentive service that keeps the experience smooth before heading out to a concert. Diners also appreciate the comfortable seating and the feeling of stepping into a bygone era.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests note that the space can feel a bit tight when it’s a full house, so reservations are a smart idea. The focus on the prix fixe menu means fewer à la carte options, which may not suit everyone. Also, while the underground setting adds to the mood, it’s not ideal for those looking for a quick bite without the full experience.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a stylish, music-infused spot to kick off your concert night in Kansas City, Lonnie’s Reno Club hits all the right notes.

l Kansas City was the birthplace of bebop and improvisational jazz, which is what made this genre so fun - especially during the 1920s and 1930s. During those times, there were over 100 jazz clubs on...

l Good food, great entertainment. Some have complained about the cost, but so worth it! We celebrated our anniversary with a fun night out!

l Good entertainment, lousy food, and overpriced at $85 a plate, + automatic forced gratuity and other hidden fees. Comes out to around $165 a plate with one drink.
