About La Garrigue
The Spotlight on La Garrigue

Rustic French Charm Just Minutes from the Music

La Garrigue is a cozy, inviting French restaurant nestled on Jeffrey Street in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. With warm Provençal décor, wood-paneled walls, and sweeping views of Calton Hill, it’s a charming spot that blends rustic style with refined dining. Just a short walk from several of the city’s busiest music venues, it’s an ideal spot to enjoy an elegant meal before or after a show.

This long-established bistro specializes in authentic Languedoc cuisine, offering a menu rich with seasonal ingredients and southern French flair. The intimate interior, soft lighting, and attentive service make it feel more like a local favorite than a tourist haunt.

Why Concert-goers love it

La Garrigue’s location is a major win—it’s just minutes from central Edinburgh venues, making it easy to fit a quality meal into your concert schedule. The atmosphere is relaxed but polished, ideal for unwinding before the show. Service is known to be efficient and friendly, which helps if you're on a tight timeline. And with generous portion sizes and a well-curated wine list, it’s a great way to start your musical evening on a high note.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends who want a warm, welcoming space to gather
  • Solo travelers looking for a relaxed yet refined dining experience
  • Couples making their concert night extra special
  • Fans wanting a calm, cozy meal before the energy of a live show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want quality (the set menus are great value)

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the authentic French flavors, especially the cassoulet and seafood dishes. Many note the romantic, low-key atmosphere and excellent wine pairings. The service gets high marks for being attentive but not intrusive, and the views from the upper level are a frequent highlight. Reviews often mention it’s a “hidden gem” and a “perfect start to an Edinburgh night out.”

Areas for Improvement

Some diners have noted that the interior can feel a bit tight during peak times, and the stairs to the upper level might not be ideal for those with mobility concerns. Also, while the food is well-priced for the quality, it may be a bit of a splurge for those on a strict budget.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking to pair your concert night with authentic French cuisine and a cozy, convenient setting, La Garrigue hits all the right notes.

l My husband said his Guinea fowl was the best meal he has had on our trip to Scotland. I enjoy the shrimp, too. The owner was a friendly and interesting man. He helped us select our wine.
