Kellari Taverna is a warm, inviting Greek restaurant located in Midtown Manhattan, just a short walk from several of New York City's most iconic concert venues. Known for its focus on fresh seafood, imported Greek ingredients, and rustic Mediterranean charm, Kellari offers a refined yet relaxed atmosphere that feels like a quick escape to the Aegean.
The dining room features soft lighting, wood-beamed ceilings, and white tablecloths—perfect for both casual pre-show meals and special occasions. The menu is built around market-fresh fish, with whole grilled options displayed in an ice-filled case for you to choose. You'll also find staples like lamb chops, spanakopita, and a well-curated wine list with many Greek varietals.
Its central Midtown location makes Kellari a convenient stop before heading to a show, whether you’re catching a Broadway musical or a big-name concert nearby. Guests appreciate the efficient service, making it easy to enjoy a full dinner without feeling rushed. The restaurant is lively without being loud, so you can still chat with friends or your date before the music starts. Bonus: the kitchen keeps things moving briskly, ideal for those with showtime deadlines.
Reviewers on TripAdvisor and OpenTable rave about the exceptional seafood, especially the grilled octopus and branzino. The Greek hospitality leaves a lasting impression, with many diners mentioning attentive service and friendly staff. The ambiance gets high marks—elegant but not stuffy, making it a comfortable spot before a busy night out.
Some guests mention that prices can be on the higher side, especially for the whole fish entrees. If you're not a seafood fan, options are a bit limited. And while service is usually quick, it can slow down during peak pre-theater hours—so plan ahead if you're on a tight schedule.
Kellari Taverna offers delicious Greek cuisine, a stylish setting, and a convenient Midtown location—a perfect match for concert-goers who want to dine well before the show begins.

What a great spot for Grecian specialities. Arctic char wrapped in grape leaves was wonderful, as was the tuna entree. The assortment of spreads and the calamari appetizers were wonderful. Getting the dessert took forever as did the bill and the noise level was super high (not good for table conversation). The restaurant should investigate a noise dampening system. Would go back for food alone.
Liked: Food.
Disliked: Noise level.
