About Dagon
The Spotlight on Dagon

Bold Mediterranean Flavors on the Upper West Side

Dagon is a modern, stylish Mediterranean restaurant located on Broadway in Manhattan’s Upper West Side, just a short walk from iconic concert halls like the Beacon Theatre and Lincoln Center. With its vibrant decor, open kitchen, and Israeli-inspired menu, Dagon offers a lively and flavorful dining experience that blends casual elegance with culinary creativity.

Chef Ari Bokovza’s menu features bold, seasonal dishes rooted in the diverse cuisines of the Levant region. Think house-made hummus, wood-fired breads, and inventive small plates perfect for sharing. The bar program is equally strong, offering Mediterranean wines, craft cocktails, and house-infused arak.

Why Concert-goers love it

Dagon is a top pick for concert-goers thanks to its close proximity to major music venues and its lively pre-show vibe. The small plates menu is ideal for a quick yet satisfying bite before curtain time, and the staff is praised for being efficient and attentive — important when you're on a schedule. The ambient buzz is energetic but not overly loud, making it easy to chat without shouting.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking to share plates and drinks before a show
  • Solo travelers wanting a welcoming bar scene and great food
  • Couples planning a romantic evening out with a concert as the main event
  • Fans seeking a lively atmosphere to get in the mood before a performance
  • Budget-conscious diners — while not cheap, the shareable menu offers good value

What People Say

Reviews consistently highlight the creative, flavorful dishes, especially the hummus, Jerusalem bagel, and grilled meats. Diners love the chic, comfortable decor and the knowledgeable staff who are happy to walk you through the menu. Many mention the restaurant as a go-to spot before or after a show thanks to its convenient location and vibrant atmosphere.

Areas for Improvement

Some reviewers note that it can get busy on weekends, so reservations are a good idea — especially if you’re on a tight pre-show schedule. A few guests mention that the lighting can be dim in the evening, which may not suit everyone. Prices are slightly on the higher side, but most agree the quality justifies the cost.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a concert on the Upper West Side and want a flavorful, stylish spot to eat and drink beforehand, Dagon delivers a Mediterranean experience worth savoring.

l Mediocre notwithstanding high expectations to our surprise. Dorada and branzino were completely. Totally overrated. Not really Israeli food.

l The Sahara Old Fashioned was a pleasant start to the meal. We enjoyed a selection of small plates with warm flatbread. The Ginger/Silan Chicken was also good. The service was attentive.

l We met family here for dinner when they were visiting from out of town, and we all had a sublime meal. This restaurant is a bit further up on the UWS, which may deter some people, but don't let that...
