Chico Malo brings a modern twist to traditional Mexican fare right in the heart of downtown Phoenix. Located at CityScape, just steps away from major concert venues, this stylish spot offers a vibrant, urban atmosphere with Latin flair. The décor is edgy yet inviting—think dark woods, rich textures, and colorful murals—creating a high-energy space that's ideal for kicking off your night out.
Chico Malo is just a short walk from popular downtown music venues, making it a top pick for pre-show dining. The restaurant is known for its prompt service, meaning you'll enjoy your tacos, tequila, and tostadas without worrying about missing the opening act. With an upbeat but not overwhelming noise level, it’s lively enough to get you in the concert mood without drowning out your conversation. Many visitors love the happy hour and late-night menus, perfect for grabbing a quick bite before or after the show.
Reviews on TripAdvisor and OpenTable highlight the bold flavors and creative cocktails, especially the tableside guacamole and mezcal margaritas. Diners rave about the vibrant setting and the consistently friendly service. Many mention that Chico Malo is a “fun and energetic place” to kick off a night out downtown, with several praising how quickly the kitchen handles busy pre-event crowds.
Some reviewers note that the restaurant can get crowded during peak hours, especially on weekends and event nights. While the energy is part of the charm, those looking for a quiet dinner may want to come early. A few guests mention that prices lean slightly upscale, but most agree the quality justifies the cost.
If you’re heading to a concert downtown and want great food, fast service, and a vibrant setting, Chico Malo hits all the right notes.
