About Brasserie 701
The Spotlight on Brasserie 701

Chic French Flair in Historic Old Montreal

Brasserie 701 offers a refined yet approachable French dining experience in the heart of Old Montreal. Set in a grand neoclassical building just steps from major music venues, this stylish brasserie combines Parisian elegance with a modern edge. Think high ceilings, marble accents, and an inviting energy that transitions seamlessly from brunch to pre-show dinner.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located just a short walk from many of Montreal’s top performance halls, Brasserie 701 is a go-to for concert-goers looking to elevate their night. The smart casual vibe fits perfectly whether you're dressed to the nines or keeping it low-key. Service is known to be efficient and friendly, making it easy to enjoy a full meal without rushing. The menu includes a variety of classic French dishes that are satisfying but not too heavy before a show. Bonus: the lively ambiance is ideal for getting into the concert mood.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish spot to catch up before the show
  • Solo travelers enjoying a gourmet meal before a bucket-list performance
  • Couples turning a concert night into a romantic date
  • Fans who love a high-energy pre-show setting
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want a taste of French sophistication (the prix fixe menu is a win!)

What People Say

Reviewers on TripAdvisor and OpenTable rave about the beautiful decor and upscale feel, with many noting it’s a favorite for pre-event dinners or brunches. Guests highlight the excellent wine selection and classic French dishes like duck confit and steak frites. The location and ambiance get top marks, especially for those attending nearby shows. Several reviews also celebrate the attentive service and well-paced dining experience, even on busy weekends.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that when the restaurant is full, the space can become a bit noisy—something to keep in mind if you’re looking for a quiet conversation. A few diners noted that certain dishes, while delicious, are on the pricier side, especially without the prix fixe menu.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers seeking elegant French cuisine in a lively, walkable setting, Brasserie 701 is a top-tier choice before the curtain rises.

l Disappointed. The flank steak was undercooked, tough, and fatty. The lamp chops were tasteless-appeared to not have any spice or sauce. Poor wine list.
