The Spotlight on 886

Bold Taiwanese Flavors in the Heart of the East Village

886 is a vibrant, modern Taiwanese restaurant located on St. Mark’s Place in New York’s East Village — a neighborhood known for its electric nightlife and eclectic food scene. With neon lighting, bustling energy, and a menu packed with inventive street food classics, 886 brings a youthful, fun take on Taiwanese dining just a short walk from some of NYC’s most popular music venues.

Named after Taiwan’s country code, 886 puts a playful spin on traditional dishes, offering everything from pork belly bao to three cup chicken with a twist. The vibe is casual and buzzy, with shared tables, quick service, and bold flavors that match the energy of a night out in the city.

Why Concert-goers love it

Its close proximity to East Village music venues makes 886 a perfect pre-show stop. With fast service and a menu designed for sharing, you can grab a flavorful bite without missing your opener. The space is lively but not overwhelming, so you can soak in the atmosphere and still chat with friends before heading to your show.

Who this Restaurant is great for

  • Groups of friends splitting small plates before a night out
  • Solo travelers looking for a counter seat and fast, delicious food
  • Couples making an East Village date night out of dinner and a concert
  • Fans wanting a lively pre-show space with upbeat energy
  • Budget-conscious music fans — prices are reasonable for NYC

What People Say

Reviewers rave about the creative takes on Taiwanese street food, especially the lu rou fan (braised pork rice) and pan-fried bao. The fun, neon-lit decor and upbeat playlist make it feel like part of the night’s entertainment. Many mention that it’s a go-to for a quick, satisfying meal before heading to nearby shows.

Areas for Improvement

Because it’s popular and compact, wait times can be long during peak hours, and tables are tightly packed. It’s not the best spot for a quiet, lingering meal — but that’s part of its charm if you’re in pre-concert mode.

The Bottom Line

886 is a fun, fast, and flavorful stop for concert-goers craving Taiwanese street food just steps from NYC’s top East Village venues.

l The food was great! It can be a bit crowded as it’s in St.Marks so while the staff was friendly they were kind of hard to catch. Would definitely recommend the popcorn chicken.
