Liked: The reception staff are friendly, outgoing helpful, and welcoming to all. They work hard and are appreciated so much! Same with the housekeeping staff! I hope they get good wages for all the hours of hard work and different type people they interact with!
Disliked: Despite great cleaning efforts from the hostel staff some guests really don't know how to keep common spaces tidy after use. Mainly the bathrooms and sometimes kitchen. No fault but the guests. Rent can be pretty high despite long term rates.the process of looking into that seemed hard to get straightforward answers about at times.1st room had bed bugs so I was grateful to change rooms. But laundry services were limited from repairs so it was hard to transition into a clean space again while working and adhering to quiet hours/ while sharing laundry facilities with housekeeping. Pro tip-Close windows for birds when not in room!

Disliked: TV seats was uninviting, toilets often unflushed, bad smell of some rooms/floors

Liked: The location is very good as the YMCA is within easy walking distance to both the CBD as well as the Sky Tower Intercity bus terminal as well as K Road.
Disliked: A kettle in the dining area would be helpful. Nothing else

Decent place to stay a...

Liked: Nice staff and convenient to have a fridge in the rooms. Pretty good location. Generally clean.
Disliked: You had to pay a $70 bond for the room key which I think is excessive and an unpleasant surprise at check in since it wasn’t mentioned anywhere. Also a $250 fee if you loose the key, which really gives you the feeling of not being trusted. Never had that anywhere else and I’ve stayed at a lot of hostels. Shower was a joke, no pressure at all.
