Warm, comfortable and sociable experience

Liked: Beautiful location with close driving proximity to High Force and Low Force both for walkers and watersport fans. Staff were lovely with a caring attitude and great to casual chat with. What shocked me was bunk beds I could sleep comfortably in ( I'm 6'4" and have to curly up like a hamster in winter on normal bunk beds) Showers were hot , toilets were clean , rooms were warm and bedding was provided. Dry room was excellent for my needs and clothes were dry for my second day.The second night the weather temperature radically dropped , I didn't notice until i stepped outside!Bring your own food although there are some basic supplies at reception ,however breakfast or any other meals aren't provided. The kitchen is well stocked with cup , plates, KFS etc..
Disliked: No breakfast - no warning on the booking , the booking stated breakfast £10.

A room with a view...

Liked: The location in Teesdale was beautiful, and our room had a wonderful view of the landscape. We made our own breakfast in the well-equipped communal kitchen and ate in the dining room with the other overnight guests - a very jolly start to our day. The shared toilet and shower facilities were clean and more than adequate for our needs. The hostel manager was very welcoming and helpful, which really added to our experience.
Disliked: We couldn't find any fault with either the accommodation or the management of this lovely place. Some people might struggle with the shared toilets and showers, but we didn't.

Superb

Liked: Very clean place. We'll equipped kitchen. Comfy chairs in common room. Decent beds (again very clean.)Simon, the stand in manager, was super friendly, and as you'd expect from a hostel, he had plenty of local information he was happy to share.Great location for walking. The cafe/tearoom in Middleton on Tees has wonderful genuinely homemade cakes!!
Disliked: The fire door to the common room slammed loudly if left to close on it's own. Unfortunately, some guests didn't realise that by letting the door slam (early in the morning), you disturbed anyone trying to sleep/relax.I expected to find walking maps and guide books of the local area in the common room. There is a folder with some history of the hostel itself.
