My husband and I were extremely satisfied with the hotel. We will be staying at the Clarion in the future!

Roddy and Kathleen, New Baltimore, visiting The Ark Ann Arbor Wed, 18 June 2014

I usually try to stay at Comfort Inns - lately I find I might change my mind. Too many dumpy hotels.

Liked: Bed was OK, same with breakfast.
Disliked: Very shabby and dated; lovely view of dumpster.

Comfy and spacious rooms; great hot breakfast, location, restaurant food; good value for money.

Disliked: Not the newest hotel I've seen

Fabulous

Liked: Breakfast was excellent. Staff were very diligent and friendly
Disliked: Very noisy rooms as right next to highway. No easy way to drive out of the lot. No foot paths for walking either.

Pleasant

Liked: Location was perfect. Very easy to find and was right off main highway.
Disliked: The room was clean but very small. The plumbing was terrible. Slow drain in sink, toilet whistled when flushed. Toilet was loose. My husband and I are handicapped and breakfast was down in an alcove with steps that were hard to get up and down. Breakfast was good and hot but my husband killed an ant around the toaster. Staff was very nice.

I'd choose another hotel if...

Liked: Front desk was nice and competent, I understand they're college students and one of the kids was in training so for their level of experience I think they did a fine job.
Disliked: So much. One, I checked in late at night and was tired after a long day of working , walked all the way to my room with all my bags, and first could not find it because the placement of the room numbers is completely illogical (255 is across from 266 ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ELEVATOR; room next to 253 has no number on it, etc.). Clearly the room numbers had been rearranged at some point (you can see where they were peeled off and re-stuck to the wall, klassy) but they never thought to explain that to their guests or put up a sign in the hallway directing people like every other hotel in the world has. Then, my key wouldn't work because the key has a graphic of a man pointing up in the opposite direction of where the key is supposed to be inserted, apparently I was supposed to be following a tiny arrow that I could barely see. I had to walk all the way back through the creepy atrium (wtf even is the purpose of this) to have this explained to me. Fantastic. My entire floor smelled strongly of burnt chocolate chip cookies, it's a very distinct smell if you know it, and a very strange and off-putting smell for a hotel to have. Oh, and finally, there's the security issue of the back part of the hotel being accessible by a door (off of a not very well-lit parking lot) that doesn't lock after 10pm (there's a sign that says it does, but believe me, it doesn't), so basically anyone can be wandering around in the atrium or in the elevator/hallways. Fun times if you're a woman traveling alone on business. I understand that you pay for what you get and at $71 I wasn't expecting the Four Seasons, but I've stayed in many clean, secure and serviceable hotels in that price range so I don't think it's asking too much.

Good

Liked: Staff was friendly and the shuttle bus service was great.
Disliked: The hotel is not very clean. There was a hole in the bathroom door but since it was a UM football weekend we couldnt chance changing rooms. It is very high priced for its condition but on a football weekend I guess it is just a case of supply and demand.

I would

Liked: Mediocre service, ridiculously overpriced, no shuttle to campus on HOMECOMING weekend, no closet, loud, tiny bathroom. All in all, an F.
