The Spotlight on Wombat's City Hostel London

Your Launchpad for London’s Live Music Scene

Modern, social, and seriously convenient, Wombat's City Hostel London sits in the heart of East London, just a short walk from Tower Bridge and some of the city’s most iconic venues. With a lively backpacker vibe, cozy common areas, and both shared and private rooms, this hostel makes a great base for music-lovers on a budget.

You’ll find free WiFi throughout, a 24-hour front desk, and handy extras like vending machines and a buzzing on-site bar. Whether you're heading to a sold-out gig or just soaking up the London energy, Wombat’s is the kind of place where fellow fans become friends.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re just a short walk from Aldgate East and Tower Hill stations, making late-night Tube rides after concerts a breeze. Many of London’s top music venues are just a few stops away, yet the hostel’s tucked-away Dock Street location keeps things relatively quiet when it’s time to crash. With 24-hour reception and flexible arrival times, you can check in late without stress — perfect if you're coming straight from a show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a social, affordable stay
  • Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list concert
  • Couples wanting a fun London weekend without the high hotel prices
  • Fans who want a chill, communal space to recover post-gig
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who prefer to spend on tickets, not beds

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no full-service restaurant, you’ve got vending machines for late-night snacks and loads of great food spots just steps away. The hostel’s bar serves drinks and light bites, and with supermarkets nearby, self-catering is easy. Breakfast is available on-site — ideal if you're recovering from a night out.

Nightlife Options

Wombat’s has its own bar with a social, hostel-style vibe — think craft beers, shared tables, and conversations that last all night. You’re also super close to Shoreditch and Brick Lane, two of London’s liveliest nightlife districts, packed with pubs, clubs, and after-hours hangouts.

What People Say

Travelers love the hostel’s clean facilities, friendly staff, and vibrant bar. Reviews often mention the unbeatable location for exploring London and the hostel’s fun, international atmosphere. Many guests say it’s one of the best-value stays for social travelers heading to gigs.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention the 10:00am check-out time feels a bit early after a late night. Also, ongoing renovations (hello, new PunkBeds!) can mean occasional daytime noise — but staff are upfront and accommodating.

The Bottom Line

A fun, central, and affordable hub for concert-goers looking to dive into London’s music scene without blowing their budget.

Feeling HOT, HOT, HOT!! Great...

Liked: I find the staff, facilities and location to be great! It's a very nice facility with lots of room, a great bar and patio.15 minute walk to London Tower, Thames river and bus tours. Nice proximity to resturaunts by a pier.
Disliked: My biggest complaint was the HEAT!! I was on the 5th floor. As you go up, you can feel the heat increasing with every step. I was in a room with 3 others. The temperature, based on an app I installed on my phone would record the temperature. The highest temp was 35 Celsius!! This is at night on August 12. The blinds would not work so the sun would go in the room all day. Even though the fans in the beds and a floor fan they gave me to use were on, the would push the heat around...no relief from the heat. This made it a miserable stay. Can't sleep. Only a couple hours here and there. It would be cooler in the day so would nap for 1-2 hours to make up for it. The sheets would always be soaked with sweat and there was no comfort in sight. Not so bad if for 1 or 2 nights. I was there for 7 nights! It's very difficult to enjoy a trip and go out in the day when suffering from sleep deprivation and heat exposure! If not for the very uncomfortable environment, It would have been a much better experience. The staff did all they could, I don't blame them for the heat. However, better ventelation and other methods, such as Air Conditioning and cooling methods for the building need to be implemented.Other issues:They lock out visitors from the interior patio at 10PM, so all who want relief from the heat need to be out on the streets. As well as smokers, and they are pushed away from the street area to the end of the block to not disturb the neighbors. Laundy is 5 pounds per cycle...expensive.
