Great location, friendly staff. Poor...

Liked: The location is fantastic. The grounds go on to the university of Essex and is very green and full of wildlife. There were many walks as we stayed with a dog that suited us. The lounge was the better place for us to relax with the dog.
Disliked: Some of the staff were friendly, some looked like they didn’t want to be there and definitely weren’t dog people despite the fact it is advertised as a dog friendly hotel. You can’t sit in the bar with a dog, you have to sit outside or in the residents lounge (which is much better) There are no dog poo bins you have to find one on the grounds which is fine in the day but not great when you pop out in the evening for a nighttime toilet. The rooms in the new building are stifling hot. Unbearable to sleep for me. Despite having an aircon unit in the room and a ceiling fan, you would have to have the patio door open to get any air in, which again isn’t ideal if you have a dog or a child with you. The food was ok, but the service was really slow. The staff were friendly but we had to remind them at every sitting to check where are food/drinks were. We were told a different excuse each time but it did get a bit wearing to have to wait so long.

Horrendous

Liked: Close to the university, peaceful and quiet
Disliked: I was treated very badly when I checked in just because I am arab likewise when I checked out they did not even bother to ask how my stay was or whether I enjoyed it or not , they looked like as they were happy I left, absolutely horrendous. The milk was not fresh in my room and it was not replaced when it was taken. Discrimination and racism seem to be the slogan of this establishment, inconceivable !!!
