The Spotlight on Whites Hotel

Relaxed Jesmond Stay Close to the Action

Modern yet unpretentious, Whites Hotel is nestled in the leafy suburb of Jesmond, just minutes from Newcastle’s city centre and top concert venues. With easy access to public transport and a laid-back vibe, this hotel strikes a perfect balance between city convenience and neighborhood charm.
Rooms come equipped with flat-screen satellite TVs, free Wi-Fi, and tea and coffee facilities, plus complimentary mineral water for that post-show hydration. On-site parking is free but limited, and the hotel requires a refundable £50 damage deposit at check-in.

Why Concert-goers love it

Guests love the hotel’s location—just a 10-minute walk to Jesmond and West Jesmond Metro stations, making it easy to hop into the city for gigs without the late-night taxi stress. Its peaceful residential setting offers a quiet place to crash after a loud night out. With a 12:00 check-in and 11:00 check-out, there’s a bit of flexibility for those arriving early or sleeping in after the encore.

Who this Hotel is great for

– Groups of friends looking for affordable, convenient digs
– Solo travelers ticking off a dream setlist
– Couples turning a concert into a weekend escape
– Fans craving peace and quiet after the show
– Budget-minded music lovers who prefer to spend on tickets, not just beds

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Blanc Bar and Lounge serves up a global menu that hits the spot whether you’re fueling up pre-show or grabbing a bite post-gig. The heated patio area is a bonus for late-night eats. While full 24/7 room service isn’t offered, the bar and kitchen stay open late enough for most concert-goers. Breakfast is available, ideal for those slow mornings after a big night.

Nightlife Options

While there’s no live music on-site, the bar screens live sports and events across seven plasma TVs, creating a lively atmosphere. Jesmond’s vibrant bar scene is a short walk away, or hop on the Metro to hit Newcastle’s legendary nightlife—including clubs, pubs, and late-night lounges.

What People Say

Reviews consistently praise the hotel’s friendly staff, clean rooms, and excellent location for getting around Newcastle. Guests appreciate the relaxed vibe and value for money. The Blanc Bar earns points for its food selection and casual, welcoming feel.

Areas for Improvement

The hotel’s limited parking can be tricky during peak times, so arrive early or consider public transport. Some rooms could benefit from a refresh, but most guests find them comfortable and well-equipped. Be aware of the required damage deposit—it’s refundable, but card returns may take a few days.

The Bottom Line

With its easy transport links, peaceful setting, and budget-friendly rates, Whites Hotel is a smart choice for concert-goers who want convenience without the city centre price tag.

Pleasant

Liked: There's free WiFi and it's well-located. There's also free parking.
Disliked: The announcement is a little misleading as the pictures shown are of new rooms and we were given old ones. The deposit of 50 pounds was surprising, considering how old the room was. The pillows were old and thin, or old and hard. There's no air conditioning, and I'm pointing this out because we're so used to hotels having air conditioner, that we were surprised when we got to the room and there wasn't any, and I'm sure that may happen to other people as well, so that's a warning, and it was especially bad as we were in a heatwave. There's a small, dusty fan, and windows that barely opened. The WiFi is free, but only if you ask for the password. When showering, the box was small and water didn't drain as fast as it should, pooling around my feet a significant amount. The bathroom floor was also sticky. I was there with my wife, and there were two bathing towels: one of good quality, and another that was thin, small and looking run down, so we just shared the good one. One of the reasons why the hotel sounded attracting on Booking was that there was breakfast included, and when we got there, we found out breakfast was an unripe banana, a bottle of water, juice in a box, an Aldi's pain au chocolate and an oats and honey bar (in my case), and a croissant and 3 small cookies (in my wife's case), all in a bag. Overall it served its purpose (a bed to sleep in), but for the price we paid, it surely was a very disappointing and frustrating experience.

A perfect example of how...

Liked: Sheets were clean.
Disliked: Very run down. Poor info from hotel and staff. Rate “includes” breakfast which consisted of a paper bag with long-life cake and fruit-flavoured carton. Told on Friday “chef” didn’t arrive until 9am Saturday. Went for breakfast at 9 and then told chef wouldn’t arrive until 10. “Nothing I can do” attitude from staff. Would not refund breakfast cost “as it was included”

Decent budget hotel

Liked: Great location, good value hotel, don't go expecting the Ritz but 10 times better than some of the reviews on here. Check in was easy although you do need to leave a deposit (refunded the next day for me) Hotel was clean, bed was comfortable, shower was ok. Free bottled water at reception, coffee machine in foyer
Disliked: Decor is dated. There was a loud extractor fan outside our window that was noisy

Worst hotel I have ever...

Liked: The staff were friendly
Disliked: The stairwell up to the room stank of wee, there were glade air fresheners of different smells between banisters on the way up. The room was filthy and under the bed there were wrappers and a generous layer of dust. The smell of air freshener in the room was overpowering and took a day to subside. The noise from students in the bar below and outside under my window till past 1 every morning was impossible to drown out. There were stains on the bedsheets so I slept on top of the quilt. The bathroom tap moved around a lot so was hard to turn on and off. The bathroom smelt progressively worse over the three days, the smell seemed to come from the drains. It was nothing like I had imagined from the description and pictures. The 'included' breakfast was a brown paper bag with a tangerine, carton of apple juice, a packet of mini ginger snaps and a pastry in plastic packaging.
