Nice place to stay in...
Liked: Lovely old building, well kept up. Nice history. Clean, open feeling, many places to sit outside.
Disliked: We are old and probably very much in the minority about this, but the modern decor felt a bit out of place and dated (as in current). We expected more of a real breakfast rather than a continental buffet.

Nice hotel - but did...
Liked: Charming and beautifully renovated hotel, good and healthy breakfast with reusable dishes (not a matter of course in the USA), convenient location close to town center and harbor.
Disliked: The hotel charged half of the room rate to my credit card immediately after booking several months ago. This seems to be standard practice at this hotel. However, the lady (possibly the owner) at check-in was not aware of this charge and put us in an uncomfortable situation: We now had to prove that this transaction actually took place more than six months ago. If this disputed payment had not already been made, we would have left the hotel immediately. Fortunately, I can access my bank account transactions via a smartphone app. The lady told us that Booking.com was to blame and that she would investigate further. A very brief “sorry” ended this situation.Mistakes can happen, but it bothered us that we were treated like second-class guests and that the atmosphere was close to tipping over. We didn't receive any feedback on how the investigations turned out. I would have expected a full and proactive apology for this severe mistake and the resulting unpleasant situation.What completely shocked us, however, was the recent feedback on Booking.com from Michael from the UK given on June 5 (see attached screenshot). We read this feedback after our check-in. Apparently, a similar situation happened to this traveler, but he couldn't prove the earlier charge and finally had to pay one and a half times the price. This could give rise to the suspicion that this rip-off is being practiced somehow systematically. "A rogue who thinks evil of it."We were very disappointed and will never book at this hotel again. Furthermore, we would like to warn other guests to be very careful when booking and paying at this hotel.
