It was perfectly adequate for...
Liked: The breakfast was very nice, and bed very comfortable. The room was clean, and the staff were all extremely friendly and welcoming. We were staying for a visit to Alton Towers and it was certainly very close which was what we needed after a long day.
Disliked: The restaurant was not open on Sunday's which was disappointing as options in the immediate surrounding area are limited, a car or taxi is required. The reception area and bar was closing when we arrived before 7pm, and really only option available was to stay in our room, or leave the premises. The room is basic, particularly the bathroom which has no attachment to hold the shower head and with a sloping roof was a challenge to shower at 6 foot. Given the fact we seemed to be the only people in the hotel, I would have thought they could have given us a better room.

Liked: We will start with the room, we booked the honeymoon suite.Pro’s - spacious, comfortable super king bed.Con’s - 2 of the windows don’t have blinds/curtains letting in too much light with the bright early mornings.Dining.Pro’s - dining area is beautiful with amazing views.Con’s - there were several ants crawling around our table, the menu was not the same as the menu on their website which cost us over DOUBLE the amount that is advertised and the menu is still live on the website now. https://www.whistonhallhotel.com/_files/ugd/3aa566_10fe882917ea469990e82bed03ca3e81.pdf we would have spent £36 on 2 sides and 2 mains, instead our bill came to £82!If the bill had an “optional service charge” I was not made aware and given the fact that food service took far too long as they appeared to be understaffed as they were hosting a 30th party upstairs I would not have paid a service charge as we were eating amongst ANTS!no reduction in the bill, just waived it off as “yeah we had ants and got rid of them but they’re back”Breakfast was no different, machine coffee is terrible, cold toast served with breakfast, no butter on offer or provided we had to request butter for the toast. There are several other nuisances but at the risk of going too over the top with critiques I’ll stop, you might even argue the butter for the toast is too far but when your heightened to an overall poor experience with unexpected food bills everything starts to bother you.For these reasons I can’t recommend this place and won’t return.

Ok for purpose we had...
Liked: The location was great the rooms were spotless including the bedding towels and wash liquids great we had 1 sachet of coffee 2 tiny milk pots plenty of tea bag’s and sugar so very sparse for a cuppa in the room the glasses in the dinning room on the tables were not clean mine had lip marks from lipstick all around the rim it near put me off breakfast it was minging I have taken a picture I did tell the waitress who shrugged it off with I’ll get you another that simply wasn’t the problem it should of been presented clean But the rooms were impeccable spotless so the room cleaner is spot on and it was warm all areas were warm
Disliked: As you entered it had a tiny bar area then a dining area no lounge or comfy area to sit and relax it looked like it was the only space for guests the rest was closed off And our bed although clean was leaning to the left my husband was on a slope off the bed and bed not comfy the food was amazing even breakfast but evening menu very limited but great food tbf

Passable
Liked: Lovely setting and lovely staff. Food was excellent as well. We had pie night on arrival and the breakfast was amazing.
Disliked: After a long day out at Alton Towers we arrived back to our room to find it had not been serviced. No fresh towels and no toilet roll. Bin not emptied. The hot water also ran out before we could both shower. We had to go to reception twice to ask for the things we needed. The housekeeper apparently went off sick, however I feel someone should have done the basics for us. Also not sure what happened with the hot water. Otherwise a good stay at Whiston Hall.

A comedy of errors. A...
Disliked: On the day of our arrival, we were told by the owners that they were not opening the restaurant for dinner. A bad start, we had planned to eat in the hotel. There are no other dining options in the village. We had been driving most of the day so the owners booked us a taxi to a local pub 3.9 miles away, a 7 minute journey. This cost a ridiculous £36 return. No recompense was offered by the owners of Whiston Hall, even though this was an unexpected cost due to them not bothering to open the restaurant. We had a drink in the Whiston Hall bar before leaving. My wife's Prosecco was flat and was returned. There were only 2 coat hangers in the wardrobe of our double room. The owners promised to provide more but didn't bother during our stay. There was no wi-fi in the bar or restaurant. The room (No 3) was spacious but tired. The seal was missing from the shower screen and the bathroom flooded. We had to pack the gap with towels and the bath mat for subsequent showers.Breakfast was tasty but lukewarm on cool plates. When requested condiments arrived later 2 pepper pots were provided but no salt.
