Muthu Westcliff Hotel (Near London Southend Airport) Guest Reviews
Write a review
With its grand Victorian charm and clifftop location overlooking the Thames Estuary, the Muthu Westcliff Hotel (Near London Southend Airport) offers a peaceful yet convenient base for concert-goers. Just a short walk from Southend’s buzzing music venues and attractions, this boutique-style hotel combines traditional English elegance with modern comforts. Many rooms offer sweeping estuary views, and the classic décor gives it a relaxed, timeless vibe.
Music fans appreciate the location—just a 5-minute walk to the Cliff Pavilion, one of Southend's top concert venues. After the show, stroll back along the seafront to your room with no need for taxis or late-night transport. The hotel’s quiet clifftop setting means you can enjoy a restful night’s sleep post-gig, away from the late-night street noise. With check-in from 15:00 and check-out at 11:00, there’s time to rest and recover.
The onsite brasserie restaurant serves international cuisine, ideal for pre-show dinners. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the hotel offers afternoon tea and a seasonal patio space for relaxed dining. Plenty of local eateries and pubs are within walking distance, and there’s breakfast available the next morning—perfect after a late night out.
The hotel itself is more about quiet charm than late-night partying, but you're just a short walk from Southend’s bars and pubs by the seafront. Whether you're after a celebratory drink post-concert or a chilled pint with a view, the location gives you options without the chaos of a city center.
While the building’s Victorian charm is part of the appeal, some guests mention that certain rooms could use a refresh. There’s also no lift, so pack light or request a lower floor if stairs are an issue. Limited parking can be a challenge during busy weekends.
The Muthu Westcliff Hotel is a charming and convenient base for concert-goers—close enough to walk to the show, but far enough to relax after the encore.

Liked: Friendly and helpful staff.

My room was very clean and large. It had lots of mirrors and a desk to sit at - both features were very helpful. It had a large window overlooking the sea which I loved and all the drink making and washing extras that one expects. As a single woman I felt very safe and I will be staying there again in October.
Liked: It was well presented and spacious.
Disliked: The restaurant was quite expensive.

Would have been a great stay but for a disco until the early hours. We were moved to a sea front room which was quiet. Staff did apologise - would use again though.
Liked: Rooms comfy; food excellent.
Disliked: Disco going on until the early hours - very loud.

Brilliant - we had a lovely stay. All the staff were really friendly, very smart and efficient. The food and service in the restaurant and bar was second to none. Our room was fresh and extremely clean. Breakfast was spot on with a good selection to suit most tastes. Value for money was very good. Already recommended it to friends and we are looking for a reason to stay again.

Nice hotel with good views
Liked: The hotel has been tastefully refurbished since our last stay. We had a nice superior twin on 4th floor
Disliked: Unfortunately it was so hot and fan was not strong enough so slept with window open and got bite to pieces. Breakfast was ok but the fried eggs were dangerously undercooked!!

Disliked: The overhead shower temperature control is broken so it was scalding hot. Thankfully handheld shower tap to the rescue. Room 108

Bearable
Disliked: Staff never on desk. Newly decorated sea view room was nice at first glance but on closer look it needs more work. Bathroom very small and needs a deep clean. Shower drips out and the angle of the bath when showering is very dangerous for a larger person. Bed had springs and lumps that dug in my back and the roller blind was cut wonky and let the light in from the street light and morning sun.

Disliked: Staff when I arrived was rude, I arrived at 9 o'clock at night to be told I had no pillow cases so I had to drive to Tesco and buy my own,the fire escape closest to my room was blocked and dangerous I have a video of the whole ordeal I was supposed to get an email from them confirming a full refund but have had nothing as of yet and am really not happy about the whole thing and would like booking.com to do something thing about it! I would appreciate a phone call as I'm not the most literate person as you can probably tell but something needs to be done
