Liked: Friendly and obliging staff. Beautiful hotel.

Overpriced for a lack of...

Liked: The ladies on the reception were friendly and helpful and ordered us a taxi into town when we arrived.The breakfast was a buffet but it tasted freshly cooked and there was a lot of choice of cold food too, such as croissants and fruit. We were attending a concert in the centre of town, at Dreamlands, and it was a good half an hour walk up hill on the way back. We got a taxi into town. But the hotel is located close to a beach and you can walk there easily.
Disliked: We were shocked at how old fashioned the hotel was inside. I have stayed in some really nice rooms for £175 a night! This wasn't one of them. It would have been cleaner/more comfortable in a Premiere Inn.I had only seen pictures of the outside online and that is done well with lots of hanging baskets and coffee tables. Inside they are obviously going for the 1950s look. But in reality this was a get out clause for not doing any renovations. (some hotels are renovated to a high standard and just have a few choice pieces of furniture) This had a swirly 1960s carpet. An old grill door lift. Lots of heavy dark furniture and the bed in our room was so old that it had springs underneath, a thin mattress, hard headboard, and was so small that my husband had to sleep diagonally. The bathroom was tired/70s. And although, clean, had a tiny piece of soap - you had to step into the bath to use the shower and the toilet cistern made dripping noises all night. While the ladies on reception and gentleman who served us at the bar in the evening were friendly. The teenage girl who was on duty at breakfast on the morning of Saturday 19th of July was miserable. I tried to make small talk but she was very grumpy. There was an elderly lady at the next table on her own, and even though she struggled to carry plates/cups back to her table, neither the teenage girl nor boy offered to help her.

Quirky, charming and peaceful

Liked: Quirky and interesting with character Dog friendly and staff all friendly. Really interesting place and would recommend and stay again. Rooms are done out to a nice standard, It’s not modern but that’s also part of its charm Even met so celebs in hotel
Disliked: Beds are pretty small for 2 grown adults, room was hot, they did supply a fan in the room though.

A great period hotel, loads...

Liked: Loved the hotel as it is a real period hotel, with rooms matching the period. The front veranda is beautiful.Staff very helpful, and Jane Bishop was charming and very attentive.
Disliked: Think the character and period feel of the hotel is muddled by the extensive memorabilia on display - a lot of interesting things on show, but confused by so many other things which don't have any links to the area/hotel.There's an element of 'hoarding' going on, which made parts of the hotel feel cluttered - which was a shame.

Amazing time in Margate

Liked: Really quirky and lovely hotel. It has a museum within it with lots of historical pieces, the highlight was a lift from 1927, that worked better than modern lifts. Staff were so helpful and polite, really loved the stay.

Unique, charming and timeless

Liked: This property is truly unique, it has so much character and charm - it’s not just a place to stay it’s a destination in itself, enjoy a cream tea on the veranda and explore the wonderful museum and gallery and allow yourself to step back in time! This was my first time staying here and won’t be my last!
Disliked: Nothing
