Disappointing ☹️

Liked: Loved the tranquil countryside setting. Sauna was out of order. Workmen all around the spa. Pool was warm and outside sundeck was lovely. Only one private changing room, otherwise communal. Short staffed.Hotel was very olde worlde but sadly, run down. Pizzeria was closed. Room was freezing when I arrived and took 3 hours to warm up. Main door was slamming late at night and early morning. Room was modern and bed was super comfortable with lovely pillows. Biggest disappointment was that they'd lost their liquor license so my "sparkling afternoon tea" wasn't at all sparkling.Could be such a nice place with a bit of investment.I won't return.

Good

Liked: The scenic location is wonderful, so peaceful and the Manor House is stunning. Comfortable and clean room. Great night sleep. Shower and bath lovely. Great breakfast, plenty of choice. Staff extremely friendly and accommodating.
Disliked: The food wasn’t good. The venison was tough and my husbands steak hadn’t been rested. Very disappointing over priced for the level of cookery. Gym was dated and poolside not clean. Very worn would benefit from refurb. Lockers broken and pool and hot tub were freezing. If the place had a better tasting menu and new leisure facilities it would be a 5* easily.

Not a great spa hotel...

Liked: Room was clean and bed comfy. newish bathroom was a surprise. breakfast was also pretty good.
Disliked: Arrived and no parking so had to use overflow which is a little tatty and down the bottom of the hill - brought all my bags up to reception and then had to take all my bags almost back down the hill as my room was on the way to the overflow car park. External approach to the building I was in was shabby and the general state of the whole site is a little tired and due some investment - really lets down what could be an amazing place. Equally there are a few outbuildings that have roof felt ripped off in the wind, a couple of derelict sheds/barns and waste disposal bins scattered about that look make it all look shabby. Hotel restaurant hadn't had its liquor licence renewed so no drink on offer which wasn't a big deal for me. The spa - my advice is not to visit if you want a spa experience. The place has not had any investment in it for over 20 years from what I can see. I use lots of hotels with spas and this is a real disappointment. Everything is tired - the lift was out of order, the sauna was out of order and one of the showers was out of order in the mens changing room. Everywhere you look the ceiling tiles are out of place or missing or broken, the showers are mouldy and smell, there is no swimming costume spin dryer, actual tiles on the floor of the area around the steam room are missing and the steam room itself was just a white upvc white box with blue lighting and has so much mould in it! pretty disgusting and I cannot believe the place is still open and running. If only they could invest in the grounds/hardlandscape and spa facility and the place could warrant charging another £50 a night. I paid £100. I won't be staying again until things have got better.
