The Spotlight on Viking Motel

Affordable Comfort Close to the Portland Music Scene

Modern convenience meets no-frills comfort at the Viking Motel, an easygoing stay just off I-5 and a short drive to Downtown Portland. This budget-friendly motel is perfect for travelers looking to stay close to the action without breaking the bank. With simple, cozy rooms—each equipped with a flat-screen TV, coffee maker, and private bathroom—it’s a great spot to rest up before or after a big show.

Why Concert-goers love it

The Viking Motel is just minutes from big-name venues like the Rose Garden Arena, and its location off I-5 makes it a breeze to get around the city—even late at night. While it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of a luxury hotel, it offers a quiet place to crash after an epic night out. The 3:00 PM check-in time gives you plenty of time to settle in before an evening concert, and the 11:00 AM check-out allows for a relaxed morning after.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a convenient, affordable base
  • Solo travelers catching a dream show
  • Couples enjoying a music-filled weekend getaway
  • Fans who prefer a quiet night’s sleep post-show
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who spend more on tickets than lodging

Food and Drink Options

While Viking Motel doesn’t offer dining on-site, guests will find plenty of walkable eateries and late-night food spots nearby, especially in the North Portland area. Since each room includes a coffee machine, you can still get your caffeine fix after a late night. For a heartier breakfast, local diners and cafes are just a quick drive or walk away.

Nightlife Options

Though the motel itself is quiet, it’s close to some of Portland’s best nightlife. You’ll find bars, lounges, and music venues just a short Uber or Lyft ride away. Whether you're after a low-key brewery hangout or a lively post-show bar, North Portland’s scene delivers.

What People Say

Guests on Booking.com and TripAdvisor praise Viking Motel for its clean rooms, friendly staff, and excellent location for getting around the city. Many reviewers mention it’s a great value for the price, especially for short stays centered around events or concerts. The proximity to public transport and easy freeway access are also big pluses.

Areas for Improvement

This isn’t a luxury stay—some guests note that the decor is dated and that amenities are basic. There’s no on-site restaurant or bar, and parking can be a bit tight during busy nights. But overall, it delivers on the essentials, especially for the price.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to Portland for a concert and want a clean, affordable place to stay near the city’s top music venues, Viking Motel hits all the right notes.

Camas comodas

Liked: It's located far from the city but the tram it's just a block away. It has a couple of very good markets close by. The people that run it are nice. Available washer and drier. Típico motel.
Disliked: The room is small and it doesn't need the armchair, it does not let you use the desk, we had to move it. It needs remodeling. The trip to Portland was a waste of time, the city is ruined, empty, no shops, just people living in the streets, dangerous....we saw a mugging...the only two good things: a farmer's market and the Chinese garden.
