The Spotlight on Viking Hotel

Affordable Comfort Just Minutes from Stratford's Music Scene

Modern and budget-friendly, the Viking Hotel sits in East London’s vibrant Newham borough, just a mile from Stratford Rail and Tube Station. With easy access to London’s top concert venues and airports, this hotel keeps things simple with clean, comfortable rooms, free parking, and a 24/7 front desk. It's a no-fuss option for travelers who want a convenient base without blowing their budget.

Rooms are equipped with satellite TV, Wi-Fi, tea and coffee facilities, and private bathrooms with hairdryers. Cribs are available on request, and a continental breakfast buffet is served daily to get your day started after a late night out.

Why Concert-goers love it

With Stratford Station just a short walk or quick cab ride away, getting to major venues across London is a breeze. The 24-hour reception makes late check-ins smooth after a night of live music, and free on-site parking is a big perk for those driving in. The neighborhood stays fairly quiet at night, offering a peaceful place to unwind after a show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for budget-friendly rooms close to the action
  • Solo travelers catching a must-see gig
  • Couples making a weekend of it in the city
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who value location and essentials

Food and Drink Options

The Viking Hotel offers a self-service continental breakfast daily—ideal for those recovering from a late night. While there’s no on-site restaurant for evening meals, there are plenty of restaurants and takeaways within a 10-minute walk. Guests can also enjoy a hot drink in the lobby’s relaxed seating area.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself is quiet, it’s within easy reach of bars and pubs in Stratford, and just a quick Tube ride to London’s buzzing nightlife districts. Whether you're heading to a gig or looking for a nightcap, the location makes it easy to dip into the scene and retreat to peace.

What People Say

Guests love the affordable pricing, free parking, and proximity to public transit. Reviews often mention the hotel’s clean rooms and friendly 24-hour staff. Many say it’s “great value for money” and perfect for a short London stay centered around events or concerts.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms are on the basic side, and the lack of air conditioning might be noticeable in the summer. Some guests mention sound from the street, so light sleepers may want to pack earplugs. Breakfast is simple—fine for most, but don’t expect a full English.

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a budget-friendly, well-connected hotel near London’s major music venues, Viking Hotel hits all the right notes.

Emma J, Weston-super-Mare, visiting ABBA Arena Fri, 15 July 2022

Great location to shops; just 10 minutes up the road to a huge shopping centre and plenty of places to eat. Parking and friendly service; helpful staff at check in and out; no issues. Would stay again.

Liked: It had secure parking; the rooms were small but perfect for a night or two; convenient to walk to the ABBA Arena (20 minutes); the room had a comfy bed and even a fridge; the bathroom had a shower and everything was spot on for the price; would highly recommend for a no frills stay; breakfast was good, help yourself to as much as you like - can not fault it.
Disliked: None.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and checked us in early as we arrived. The shower products were fabulous and the food was reasonably priced and was top restaurant quality. It's a fun quirky hotel with table football, board games and a great vibe.

Liked: The food and the shower products.
Disliked: None.

Bad

Disliked: First of all, the receptionist would not let us into reception. They would only talk to us through a window while we stood outside. We paid at the hotel, not through booking.com. the receptionist seemed stressed and rushed us through to the side entrance. As I walked past the reception, there was a sign saying "hotel full" and the doors shut, however there was still availability on booking.com. There were multiple people being served dinner in the restaurant. I could see many signs of different languages all along the wall in the reception. The receptionist showed us to our room, it was large and old. I saw a maggot on the floor by the fridge. I wanted to wash my face but there was no hot water. The room and hallways stank of weed. We decided to go for a walk outside and the area felt very unsafe. When looking through the windows into the hotel, it looked like people were living inside the hotel rooms. I had a bad feeling so we read some reviews. There were multiple reviews about the beds being infested with bed bugs, with pictures of their sores. My partner and I went to London for tattoos, so we could not afford to be infested with bed bug bites. We decided to leave the hotel, at this point it was 11pm. We left and went to a different hotel. When we returned the next day to get a refund, we spoke to the owner. He was very hostile, he called us liars and said he didn't need our money anyway. It did not feel safe. Eventually he agreed to refund us 2 nights stay (we paid for 3 nights). After multiple phone calls, emails and multiple excuses on their end (their interest isn't working, your card doesn't match ours, etc) we finally got a refund. 100% avoid at all costs.

Disliked: We were given a twin room although we booked for a double room. Also, the wifi wasn't working during the stay.

Superb

Liked: Everything was absolutely perfect about the place. We got an upgraded room, they offer free parking which is very handy and very easy to get to the train station with the bus stop right outside. Only fault which doesn’t matter at all is that it’s outdated but didn’t cause any issues. Shower was very nice and beds are comfy. Fridge and coffee making facilities in the room.

Liked: The location was convenient for us. The bins were emptied and the TV was fixed upon request. Hot water was available throughout our stay.
Disliked: Check out was too early. There were no hooks in the bathroom to hang our clothes. The carpet was outdated, there was a musty smell coming from the room and the beds were not comfortable.
