WE had a large basement...

Liked: No breakfast, and no coffee machine in the room
Disliked: No towels in the room when we arrived. Owner frequently not around. Single small window in this basement suite, not sure if it was fire safe.

You are paying for a...

Liked: A place to stay. More affordable than hotels. Nice neighborhood. The hosts were nice. They had basic amenities available such as a communal refrigerator and use of dishes.
Disliked: The bed was so extremely squeaky that neither of us slept well. I regretted not just getting a hotel because of that.
